Q: What is Lotus Notes Hosted Messaging?
Lotus Notes Hosted Messaging is a Lotus branded service hosted offering of Lotus Notes for both existing Lotus Notes and Lotus Domino customers and new customers. The service provides an IT infrastructure within enterprise class IBM data centers and supported by an IBM dedicated team. The offering features two Service Level Agreement (SLA) options, spam/virus filtering, and backup/restore services.

Q: Is this offering available through Passport Advantage?
It is available for order through the IBM Passport Advantage program via IBM Lotus Notes sellers and authorized IBM Business Partners. The offering requires that the customer sign (or have already signed) the Passport Advantage Agreement and sign the "Passport Advantage Attachment for Fixed Term Use". In that Passport Advantage attachment there is a reference to a new "Terms of Use" document. That is where the Lotus Notes Hosted Messaging service terms and conditions are described in detail. Services are purchased for a 12 month term with a minimum 1,000 user requirement.

Q: How does it support/relate to IBM Messaging and Collaboration Strategy?
IBM understands that different customers have different needs, and different delivery mechanisms for collaboration solutions. Hosting is a delivery option is integrated into the overall IBM Messaging and Collaboration strategy.

Q: When will the service be available?
It is available for customers worldwide as of October 2008. Currently the "Lotus Notes Hosted Messaging Terms of Use" (Terms of Use) document translation is not complete and that will preclude order acceptance in certain countries where English contract terms is not accepted until translation of that Terms of Use document is available. The Hosting Project Office will work to expedite those language translations wherever possible.

Q: What are the details of the offering?
The Lotus Notes Hosted Messaging service is a "per authorized user", "fixed term use" service offering that has a minimum order requirement and is available to new and existing Lotus Notes and Domino customers. The initial service offering has a 1,000 user minimum part number.

The offering has two service availability levels. The "Base" service provides a 99.5% availability and a "Clustered" service increases that to a 99.9% availability.

Q: What's included in the price?
The price includes the IBM infrastructure required to host and support a Lotus Notes mailbox at the specified service level agreement (SLA). It also includes the anti-spam anti-virus services as well as backup and restore services. There are two offering types, one is for hosting services only for those customers who have a Lotus Notes and Domino Messaging license and have active Software Subscription and Support. There is another option that has the Lotus Notes Hosted Messaging service "with Lotus Notes Messaging client". That part number includes Lotus Notes Hosted Messaging license for a 12 month fixed term. Data migration, given the sizing variability, is priced separately. The service includes use of IBM Lotus Quickr Entry software with 50MB of storage. Each mailbox includes 1 GB of storage per authorized user.

Currently the Lotus Domino 8.0 server is supported (8.5 will be added when it becomes available at a later date - represents IBM plans and directions and is subject to change without notice).

Q: How are security services provided?
IBM hosted mail servers sit behind a firewall. The proxy server and the mail gateway server sit outside the firewall where mail crossing domains is routed for anti-virus and anti-spam checking thereby helping to reduce the effect of malware on the mail servers.

Q: How much storage is provided?
The standard price includes usable storage for 1GB per mailbox. Additional storage is available for purchase.

Q: How does Hosted Notes integrate with the rest of the Lotus software portfolio?
The Lotus Domino Directory provides an integration point for companies running Lotus Domino applications on-premise and using IBM's Lotus Notes Hosted Messaging offering. New entries are added for the IBM resources that are utilized in the hosting service delivery. It is synchronized between IBM and the customer via Replication.

Q: Who is responsible for user ID and group management?
IBM is responsible for managing IDs and groups that have access to perform Lotus Domino server administration. The customer is responsible for managing end user IDs and directory groups.

Q: Who provides end user support? How do problems flow?
The customer provides their own end user help desk. If they identify a problem that appears to be related to the service (i.e., connectivity or a mail server issue), then the customer's "Authorized Contact" will open a Service Request via the IBM iSRVCE web portal or by phone if the situation is considered a "Sev1" issue. Support is in English. If they identify a problem that appears to be software product related then the customer will contact IBM Support for product support.

Q: What is the backup and retention policy?
The service provides daily incremental and weekly full backup with offsite storage for weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual backup tapes.

Q: How is the environment being monitored?
The service monitors system resources such as CPU, memory and storage. It also monitors application resources such as server availability, and mail queues.
