Lotus Domino Express offerings

Two IBM® Lotus® Domino® Express offerings include messaging capability and are licensed on a per user basis in which the price includes entitlement to server and client software:

• IBM Lotus Domino Messaging Express
  IBM Lotus Domino Messaging Express software combines full support for the latest Internet mail standards with the industry-leading messaging, calendar and scheduling, discussion database and reference database capabilities of Lotus Domino software - all in one manageable and reliable package. It is an offering that includes combined server and client licenses, priced on per user basis, and available only for companies who have 1000 employees or fewer. The per user charge applies to the number of Lotus Notes and Domino users, which may be less than the total number of employees, (but the total amount of employees in the company must still be under 1,000).
  
  Lotus Domino Messaging Express includes a restricted license of Lotus Domino Messaging Server that removes selected capabilities designed for larger enterprises. You are entitled to use it on as many machines within your company as you would like, but access is limited to those users for which you have paid the per user charge. For each of those users, Lotus Domino Messaging Express includes a license for the user's choice of IBM Lotus Notes® or IBM Lotus iNotes® software. Entitlement to IBM Lotus Notes Traveler software is also included."
  
  
• IBM Lotus Domino Collaboration Express
  IBM Lotus Domino Collaboration Express software provides all the functions of the IBM Lotus Domino Messaging Express offering, plus support for custom intranet and Internet applications. The applications may be developed in house using the freely avaliable IBM Lotus Domino Designer software or acquired from an independent software vendor. (Applications built with Lotus Domino Designer software and deployed to Lotus Domino Express requires the purchase of the IBM Lotus Domino Enterprise Client Access License offering).
  
  The Lotus Domino Messaging Express and Lotus Domino Collaboration Express offerings are designed for, and only available to, companies that have 1000 employees or fewer. License restrictions remove select Lotus Notes and Domino elements and attributes that are appropriate primarily for larger enterprises.
  
  You pay for the desired number of users, up to a maximum of 1000. The per user charge applies to the number of Lotus Notes and Domino users, which may be less than the total number of employees, (but the total amount of employees in the company must still be under 1,000). The price includes entitlement to the Lotus Domino server, plus access from your choice of client: Lotus Notes or Lotus iNotes software. Entitlement to Lotus Notes Traveler software is also included.
  
  Lotus Domino Collaboration Express includes a restricted license of Lotus Domino Enterprise Server that removes select capabilities designed for larger enterprises. You are entitled to use it on as many machines within your company as you would like, but access is limited to those users for whom you have paid the per user charge.
  
  Limited use entitlement to instant messaging and presence awareness for Lotus Notes and Lotus iNotes software applies to the Lotus Domino Messaging Express and Lotus Domino Collaboration Express offerings.
  
  You may use the licensed type of Lotus Domino server software on as many machines within your company as you would like, in order to support the number of users for which you have paid the per user charge. However, you are not entitled to use Lotus Domino partitioning (the capability to run multiple Lotus Domino servers on the same machine using one copy of the Lotus Domino code) or Lotus Domino clustering.
  
  Additional license restrictions are:
  • No license to use Lotus Domino partitioning or clustering
  • No use on IBM System z platform (Linux or IBM z/OS)
  • No license to use the following advanced administration functions:
    • Extended access control lists
    • Cascading directories
    • Directory catalogs

Q. What is IBM Lotus Domino Express software?
A. IBM Lotus Domino Express is a set of IBM messaging and collaboration offerings for companies with up to 1000 employees to acquire, deploy and use the capabilities of Lotus Domino software that are most applicable to the needs of small and mid-sized businesses. Lotus Domino Express offerings are packaged and priced to provide cost-effective functionality with simplified licensing and reduced administration requirements. License restrictions remove selected Lotus Notes and Domino elements and attributes that are designed for larger enterprises. Otherwise, the capabilities of Lotus Domino Server and the server component of the Lotus Domino Express offerings are the same.

Q. What constitutes a "company"? Does a subsidiary or a department of a large corporation have the option to acquire Lotus Domino Express offerings?
A. For software acquisition purposes, a company is a Passport Advantage purchasing unit. If you choose to set up a purchasing unit in the Passport Advantage program for a subsidiary or department with 1000 employees or fewer, the unit may license Lotus Domino Express offerings. However, the software licenses acquired by this "company" would not be accrued toward the large organization's volume commitment that determines its overall Passport Advantage pricing level.

Q. What are the differences between Lotus Domino Messaging Server software and Lotus Domino Messaging Express software?
A. Lotus Domino Messaging Server is a single license for server software only. You acquire licenses for the number of processor value units associated with the hardware on which you deploy the software, and you acquire individual client licenses separately. Lotus Domino Messaging Server is available to organizations of any size. Any user who has a client access license (CAL) is allowed to access the server.

Lotus Domino Messaging Express software includes combined server and client licenses, priced on a per user basis. You may deploy the server software on as many machines as you would like, but access is limited to the users for which you have paid the per user charge. No additional access is allowed, even if the user has a separately acquired client access license. The offering is available only for companies who have 1000 employees or fewer, and removes select capabilities of Lotus Domino Messaging Server that are designed for larger enterprises. The license restrictions are:

• No license to use Lotus Domino partitioning
• No use on IBM System z platform (Linux or z/OS)
• No license to use the following advanced administration functions: extended access control lists, cascading directories, directory catalogs, directory assistance, central directory (userless name and address book)

Q. What are the differences between Lotus Domino Enterprise Server and Lotus Domino Collaboration Express?
A. Lotus Domino Enterprise Server is a single license for server software only. You acquire licenses for the number of processor value units associated with the hardware on which you deploy the software, and you acquire individual client licenses separately. Lotus Domino Enterprise Server is available to organizations of any size. Any user who has a client access license is allowed to access the server. In addition, anonymous access to non-mail applications (no sign-on or authentication involved) from a Web browser is allowed, even without a client access license.

Lotus Domino Collaboration Express software includes combined server and client licenses, priced on a per user basis. You may deploy the server software on as many machines as you would like, but access is limited to the users for whom you have paid the per user charge. If you do not have a Lotus Domino Collaboration Express per user license, you are not entitled to access the Lotus Domino server, even if the you have a separately acquired client access license or only want to use applications anonymously from a Web browser. The offering is available only for companies who have 1000 employees or fewer, and removes select capabilities of Lotus Domino Enterprise Server that are designed for larger enterprises. The license restrictions are:

• No license to use Lotus Domino partitioning or clustering
• No use on IBM System z platform (Linux or z/OS)
• No license to use the following advanced administration functions: extended access control lists, cascading directories, directory catalogs, directory assistance, central directory (userless name and address book)

Q. What does an IBM Lotus Domino Utility Server Express license include?
A. Lotus Domino Utility Server Express is an application server license option that includes unlimited access to non-mail applications (authenticated or anonymous) from a Web browser or a separately priced Lotus Domino Enterprise Client Access License offering. In addition, Lotus Domino Utility Server Express includes Lotus Domino partitioning, clustering for applications and advanced administration features.

Q. How does Lotus Domino Utility Server Express software differ from Lotus Domino Utility Server software?
A. Lotus Domino Utility Server Express is available only for companies who have 1000 employees or fewer, and is limited to a maximum of 1600 processor value units per company. Lotus Domino Utility Server Express removes select capabilities of Lotus Domino Utility Server that are designed for larger enterprises. The license restrictions are:

• No use on IBM System z platform (Linux or z/OS)
• No accompanying entitlement to Lotus Domino Document Manager or Lotus Workflow

Q. Do the Lotus Domino Messaging Express and Lotus Domino Collaboration Express offerings include the IBM Lotus Sametime® Entry entitlement that is part of a Lotus Domino Messaging CAL or Enterprise CAL?
A. Yes. Lotus Domino Messaging Express and Lotus Domino Collaboration Express include a license for any supported client access method, including Lotus Notes or Lotus iNotes software. Integrated instant messaging via Lotus Sametime Entry is enabled for Lotus Notes and Lotus iNotes software. There is no Lotus Sametime Entry entitlement in Lotus Domino Utility Server Express.

Q. Do the Lotus Domino Messaging Express and Lotus Domino Collaboration Express offerings include the integrated IBM Lotus Symphony software that is included with Lotus Notes 8 software?
A. Yes. Users of Lotus Domino Messaging Express or Lotus Domino Collaboration Express software are entitled to use the word processing, spreadsheet and presentation capabilities that are included with the Lotus Notes 8 client.

Q. May I have a mix of users - some with per user Lotus Domino Express licenses and some with CALs acquired separately?
A. Yes, mixed user licenses may be purchased. One example is when a select set of users need access to Lotus Domino Express applications built with Lotus Domino Designer software. Lotus Domino Designer software is freely available to all developers. Each user who will builds and deploys applications with Lotus Domino Designer software in a Lotus Domino Collaboration Express environment must have a Lotus Domino Enterprise CAL.

Q. I have deployed Lotus Domino Messaging Express software. How may I add entitlement to run and use applications?
A. You may upgrade your Lotus Domino Messaging Express licenses to Lotus Domino Collaboration Express. IBM offers in-family tradeup part numbers to make this easy and cost-effective. Tradeup pricing is generally lower than the difference between current prices of the existing and new licenses.

Alternatively or additionally, you may consider adding Lotus Domino Utility Server Express licenses if you want to extend the reach of non-mail applications to people outside the community of users for whom you have paid the per user charge. The extended community may include people inside the company, external or both. If your existing users want to be able to access applications using their Lotus Notes client software instead of a Web browser, they would need to upgrade to Lotus Domino Collaboration Express.

Q. If I choose to add Lotus Domino Utility Server Express licenses, would I need to install another copy of Lotus Domino code on another machine?
A. No, provided that your existing machine has adequate capacity to support the desired number of users in the new environment that adds non-mail applications. You can acquire more than one license type for the same hardware and the same copy of the code. The functions you are allowed to use and the entitlements that you have are determined by the type of license or combination of licenses that you acquire.

Q. Is my company entitled to use Lotus Domino Utility Server Express software to provide application hosting services for other companies?
A. Not in a pure hosting environment - that requires standard Lotus Domino Utility Server with an appropriate xSP hosting addendum. End user companies can choose to have their servers hosted, but must retain ownership of the relevant licenses. One company acquiring Lotus Domino licenses and then sub-licensing is not allowed. The individual companies must each have their own licenses.

Q. I have deployed Lotus Domino Utility Server Express software. How can I add entitlement for e-mail and calendar functionality?
A. You can acquire incremental Lotus Domino Messaging Express or Lotus Domino Collaboration Express licenses for the specific users who need e-mail and calendar.

Q. Does IBM offer tradeup pricing to move from Lotus Domino Express offerings to the comparable enterprise offerings?
A. IBM offers tradeup options to move from Lotus Domino Express licensing to CEO Communications bundle, but not to the Lotus Notes/Domino family client-server or processor value unit licensing model. If you are using Lotus Domino Messaging Express or Lotus Domino Collaboration Express and your organization grows, you have the option to trade up your per user licenses to the Passport Advantage CEO Communications bundle. If you are using Lotus Domino Utility Server Express and your user base expands to require more than 1600 processor value units of capacity to support it, you would need to acquire new Lotus Domino Utility Server licenses.

Q. If I have a Lotus Domino Collaboration Express license, how am I allowed to use Lotus Domino Designer software to build applications without violating the terms of Lotus Domino Collaboration Express?
A. Lotus Domino Collaboration Express customers who are interested in building applications need to purchase a Lotus Enterprise CAL license for each developer they intend to have writing and publishing Lotus Domino applications. The Lotus Enterprise CAL license includes the entitlement to use Lotus Domino Designer software. There is no conflict between the Lotus Domino Collaboration Express license and using Lotus Domino Designer software via the Lotus Enterprise CAL license.
