Extended Entitlement for Migration to Latest WebSphere BPM Products
Note: This page was last updated on April 5, 2011, to reflect updated extended entitlements from heritage WBI, WICS, and MQ Workflow products to the latest IBM Business Process Manager product components, including IBM Process Server Advanced and IBM Integration Designer. For related information, please see:
IBM plans to protect customers' past investments in IBM WebSphere integration software, and does not expect current customers to migrate immediately from currently entitled products to the most recently announced replacement offerings, like IBM Process Server Advanced and IBM Integration Designer. To facilitate the extended migration period some customers may require to move to newer replacement products (and to avoid "double payment" during that migration period), IBM is offering customers complimentary "extended entitlement" to the specified replacement products until they fully migrate from their original entitled products. Of course, customers can always decide to take advantage of the entitlement options immediately if that is desired.
Extended entitlement helps customers get access to and support for both their currently entitled products and the newly entitled products, while paying support and subscription fees only for one set of products (runtime and tooling) until one of the following occurs, whichever comes first:
A customer completes migration to newly entitled products and converts all current entitlements to the new products; or
A customer reaches the end of support for their currently entitled product(s). At this point, a customer must renew to the newly entitled products as well as purchase a support extension contract, if desired, to continue receiving support for their currently entitled products.
Customers do not have to activate extended entitlement immediately. The authorization to extended entitlement will remain in effect until the currently entitled eligible products reach their respective "end of support" dates.
Extended entitlement applies equally to all platforms including z/OS®.
A list of eligible products and their equivalent entitlement products under the extended entitlement program are defined in the Entitlement Mappings sections below.
Use of this extended entitlement covers the migration of current deployments to the new product(s). These extended entitlements are not to be used for new deployments or to provide additional capacity for current deployments.
How to Activate Immediate or Extended Entitlement for Multiplatform Products
Effective September 29, 2005, customers with active subscription to eligible multiplatform products (see Entitlement Mappings section below) can activate extended entitlement to the newly entitled products, or move to them immediately.
After activation of extended entitlement for multiplatform products, customers get access to and support for both their currently entitled products and the newly entitled products while continuing to maintain active subscription to their currently entitled products. At renewal, customers may opt to convert all, some, or none of their entitlements for current products to the new entitlements. For converted entitlements, customers pay maintenance for the newly entitled products.
The process for customers to activate entitlement is as follows:
Have available the company information, the applicable currently entitled eligible WebSphere Product(s) with subscription ID's (see Entitlement Mappings section below), and number of licenses.
Decide if you want to immediately convert your entitlements or if you want to leverage the extended entitlement options.
Work with your WebSphere sales and S&S renewal representatives to submit a request.
Once the customer request is reviewed and submitted, the entitlement request will be processed as quickly as possible. Then the customer will be notified that they have access to the newly entitled products and will be able to obtain the product code from their Passport Advantage download web site. Customers who require physical media can order media packs for these newly entitled products starting October 21, 2005.
How to Activate and Complete Extended Entitlement for z/OS productsEffective June 23, 2006, customers with active subscription to eligible z/OS products (see Entitlement Mappings section below) can request activation of extended entitlement for migration to the newly entitled products.
After activation of extended entitlement for z/OS products, customers get access to and support for both their currently entitled products and the newly entitled products for a maximum of 18 months while paying subscription and support fees for their newly entitled products only; support records for the currently entitled products stay intact during that period at no extra cost. All entitlements for the current products are converted at once.
Support and subscription records for the currently entitled products need to be canceled explicitly when migration is complete, unless the End-of-Service (EOS) date has already been reached. Otherwise, when the maximum dual-support period of 18 months expires and if neither the EOS date has been reached nor a “migration complete” notice has been given to IBM, then regular support and subscription for the currently entitled products will apply again.

Note 1: WebSphere Business Integration Server customers will receive entitlement to either: 1) IBM Process Server Advanced and IBM Integration Designer; or 2) WebSphere Message Broker. Some WebSphere Business Integration Server customers deployed WebSphere Business Integration Message Broker instead of WebSphere InterChange Server or WebSphere MQ Workflow. These customers will continue entitlement to the follow-on release of that product (WebSphere Message Broker V8) with the equivalent "extended" time period to complete the migration. Those customers who have deployed both WebSphere Message Broker and one or more of WebSphere InterChange Server and WebSphere MQ Workflow should contact their sales representative to understand their extended entitlement options.
Note 2: For WebSphere Business Integration Server Foundation for Multiplatforms authorizations acquired prior to September 12, 2005, customers are eligible to receive extended entitlement to IBM Process Server Advanced for Multiplatforms at no additional charge. For authorizations acquired on or after September 12, 2005, customers will be required to pay an upgrade fee to obtain extended entitlement to IBM Process Server Advanced, and should contact their IBM Sales Representative to process a special bid for the upgrade fee.
Note 3: For WebSphere Business Integration Server Foundation for z/OS authorizations acquired prior to April 25, 2006, customers are eligible to receive extended entitlement to WebSphere Process Server for z/OS at no additional charge. For authorizations acquired on or after April 25, 2006, customers will be required to pay an upgrade fee to obtain extended entitlement to WebSphere Process Server for z/OS, and should contact their IBM Sales Representative to process a special bid for the upgrade fee.
Note 4: Extended entitlement for WBI heritage products continues to BPM v7.5 products (IBM Process Server Advanced and IBM Integration Designer).
Note 5: License entitlement mapping for WBI application adapters to corresponding WebSphere adapter offerings is specified in the following announcement letters:
Customers who are current on their subscription to WBI Adapters are entitled to the corresponding follow-on WebSphere Adapter. Through Version 6.0.2, each JCA-based WebSphere Adapter offering also included the corresponding WBI Adapter (if available) and its prerequisite WBI Adapter Framework.
