Migrating Existing Entitlements to IBM Business Process Manager

On April 5, 2011, IBM announced IBM Business Process Manager, a single unified BPM platform that is designed to support the entire range of business process improvement projects. This is an exciting new BPM release that consolidates the market-leading capabilities of both WebSphere Process Server and WebSphere Lombardi Edition.

IBM Business Process Manager is the successor to WebSphere Process Server (WPS), WebSphere Lombardi Edition (WLE), and related products. IBM will help customers migrate their current entitlements for existing products to equivalent entitlements for corresponding IBM Business Process Manager product components.

In order to preserve the investments that customers have already made in WebSphere BPM products, IBM Business Process Manager is backward compatible with previous releases of WPS (6.1/6.1.2/6.2/7.0) and WLE (7.1/7.2). Applications that run on those WPS and WLE releases will run on similar configurations of IBM Business Process Manager. In addition, migration tools are available with IBM Business Process Manager. See the Application Migration section below for more information.

Customers that have WebSphere BPM products will be able to migrate their current product licenses to corresponding IBM Business Process Manager licenses, anytime after June 3, 2011. The tables below explain how that entitlement migration will work for each WebSphere BPM product.

Please note that IBM will continue to support existing WebSphere BPM releases for the time periods specified in the tables below, giving customers the time needed to plan and complete migration to IBM Business Process Manager releases.

Heritage WebSphere BPM Products

For customers that have heritage WebSphere BPM products – including WebSphere Business Integration (WBI) products, WebSphere InterChange Server (WICS), and WebSphere MQ Workflow (WMQWF) – IBM offers the opportunity to migrate those product entitlements to IBM Business Process Server Advanced and IBM Integration Designer.

Heritage BPM customers do not have to migrate entitlements immediately. Customers can continue to use heritage BPM products through the announced end-of-service dates. Optionally, support may be extended for up to 3 years beyond those dates.1

To facilitate the extended migration period some customers may require to move to the newer replacement products (and to avoid "double payment" during that migration period), IBM is offering customers complimentary "extended entitlement" to the specified replacement products until the customer fully migrates from their original entitled products.
