The IBM Tivoli Storage Manager family helps protect data from hardware failures, errors, and unforeseen disasters by storing backup and archive copies on offline and offsite storage.
Scalable to protect large numbers of computers connected together via internet, WANs, LANs or SANs and designed to run on a variety of operating systems, Tivoli Storage Manager's centralized web-based management, intelligent-data-move and storage techniques and comprehensive policy-based automation all work together to help minimize administration costs and the impact to both computers and networks.
The Tivoli Storage Manager family offers expansive data backup and restore capabilities for disaster planning, NDMP control for NAS filers and support for large tape libraries. In addition, IBM Tivoli offers a family of optional, separately orderable modules for mail, databases, application servers, enterprise resource planning (ERP), and hardware.
In addition, the Tivoli Storage Manager family offers an optional higher level of application and hardware integration with the data protection process.
The IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server code resides on a dedicated IBM eServer xSeries server and the data is backed up to a central library.
