Opening Session: What we set out to achieve through the day
The new version of CICS® provides a platform for business growth and application evolution. In combination with other tools in the family portfolio; CICS can position customers for the challenges of modern business. With new support for Business Events, Web 2.0, and the CICS Explorer™, CICS Transaction Server for z/OS® v4.1 will enable IT departments and lines of business to "do more with less" and “do it right,” capturing emerging opportunities as markets recover while maintaining business control and demonstrating compliance with relevant regulatory obligations and policies.
Session 1: Revitalizing Business
The introductions of RESTful Web services and Atom support help position CICS for participation in modern Web 2.0 architectures and development models. Mashups using Atom feeds or RESTful APIs can be used to integrate corporate operational data from CICS customer applications along with public information from sources like electoral rolls, crime statistics, maps, weather and other third-party information. These new representations can provide higher levels of business insight that are used to identify risk levels, ensure standards, and guarantee that policies and regulations are adhered to. New CICS event technology enables CICS to feed event processing engines and business dashboards, without the need for application change. This allows line of business management to react swiftly and effectively, creating business dashboards that highlight changes as they occur. When combined with the power of pattern recognition or rule compliance, end-to-end processes can be constructed to ensure out-of-line situations or information that has "just happened" to be reported and simple metrics can be set up to provide valuable business information that can then be used to react to and take advantage of favorable circumstances as they present themselves. In this session you will hear how these aspects are important to revitalizing your business and competing for new opportunities and how this can be implemented without the need to change your existing applications.
Session 2: Revitalizing Applications
CICS customers have many years invested in the CICS infrastructure and do not want to merely discard this investment for the sake of emerging new technologies. With CICS TS V4 you can breath new life into existing applications by extending them into new business processes. Service Component Architecture (SCA) will enable our customers to identify and package their applications (be they new or existing) in a more flexible way. This will enable component reuse in many composite applications and simplifies the process of rapidly assembling and deploying new business applications. Mature SOA support in CICS is improved with data mapping and Web services addressing, providing faster and enhanced conversion between XML and language structures for all Web services, and new APIs to use these services, independent of Web services. CICS Tools such as CICS Interdependency Analyzer can be used to identify those applications that may benefit most from being extended into new business processes while CICS Performance Analyzer can be used to ensure and check that your system is still working in an optimum way.
Session 3: Simplifying your IT Environment
Sound and demonstrable governance compliance is imperative to the management of business risk, which is becoming an increasing requirement for both enterprise lines of business and IT management alike. CICS takes advantage of new features in the operating system to allow ID propagation. This helps to improve cross-platform accountability and the auditing of access to sensitive business information and applications. SOA and Web services are maturing and sound SOA governance to control these new services is essential. CICS, the first IBM® product to offer support for WebSphere® Service Registry and Repository (WSRR), assists customers and IT Departments in controlling the proliferation of Web services within their organization and avoiding duplication. Controlling costs and resources is paramount in today’s environment. CICS recognizes the complex nature of many environments and CICS aims to control costs by simplifying IT infrastructure and improving development and operations productivity through easier-to-use interfaces and functions, dynamic workload balancing for improving performance and modern interconnectivity support. CICS gives users a much more powerful tooling environment to help experienced, skilled IT staff to be more productive and provide a more intuitive experience for less knowledgeable team members.
