Creating a roadmap for transformation in healthcare and life sciences
Today, healthcare organizations need to drastically improve patient safety, quality of care, and visibility to financial and administrative data, while having invested in systems that are spread out across the enterprise with little or no means to exchange information. As a result, these organizations are embracing Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) as a reliable strategy to improve incrementally without disrupting business as usual, and at the same time dramatically shorten time to market with innovations.
The IBM Health Integration Framework provides an architectural roadmap for transformation in healthcare and life sciences. Built on the IBM SOA Foundation, the Framework provides healthcare-specific reference architectures, tools, transformation engines and application adapters to significantly reduce development time and lower costs. The Framework adheres to healthcare standards such as HIPAA EDI, HL7, and the IHE integration profiles. Depending on need, various components of the Framework are leveraged to connect to existing systems and data repositories to unlock, access, and act on information across the enterprise. The Framework helps our customers extend their existing infrastructures incrementally over time, by allowing multiple systems to consume and re-use business services. Additionally, the Framework enables web-based collaboration across people, processes and information in the healthcare community. To reinforce the value of the Framework, our business partners are building on the Health Integration Framework to design flexible and innovative applications that can be easily integrated with other systems.
