Class Title: ALCS System Programming Class
Overview: This classroom course is designed to provide the ALCS system programmer with the knowledge to install, customize and maintain an ALCS system.
Audience: Experienced data processing professionals who are responsible for implementing and supporting ALCS systems should attend this course.
Topics: This course will provide the students with the essential information required for system programming support of an ALCS system. The topics covered include:
- ALCS environment (MVS, VTAM, etc.)
- ALCS monitor storage
- Dispatcher Communications
- Installation
- Generation
- Customization
- Operation
- Maintenance
- Callable services for user exits
- Monitor user exits
- ECB controlled user exits
Educational Objectives: Upon completion of this course, using all available documentation, the student should be able to:
- Describe monitor storage usage
- Describe the entry dispatcher
- Describe the inter-relationship between the monitor units of work
- Describe how ALCS interfaces with OS/390
- Understand the multi-processing concepts used by ALCS
- Install, generate and maintain ALCS
- Write Recoup descriptors
- Code monitor user exits
- Code ECB controlled user exits
Prerequisites: Course participants require a good knowledge of IBM System/390 architecture, assembler language, OS/390 and VTAM concepts. They should be experienced ALCS system programmers or should have attended the ALCS Concepts & Applications Class.
