Overview
CICS Transaction Server for z/OS® V2.2 was launched with the aim of combining the reliability and security of CICS software.

This release of CICS provided a platform from which an enterprise could evolve toward the adoption of e-business development.
- This new release of CICS provided a platform from which an enterprise could evolve toward the adoption of e-business, exploiting all the advantages of the evolutionary approach while capturing new opportunities derived from the latest industry-standard e-business technologies.
- CICS Transaction Server for z/OS V2.2 provided both the introduction of new technology and improvements to existing capability that allow any enterprise to move forward with adoption of e-business while minimising its exposure to the potential risks of new technology adoption.
- Enhanced support for Enterprise Java™, and session bean support that conforms to the J2EE™ Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) architecture
- Improved capability for application development, network connectivity and systems management
- An improved application development model for both new and traditional applications, providing for close integration with the integarted development environments (IDEs) of choice
- CICS Transaction Server for OS/390 V2.2 was the first release of the CICS Transaction Server V2 which was recommended for all CICS customers. On 25th January 2002 CICS Transaction Server for z/OS Version 2 Release 2 was made generally available. CICS Transaction Server V2.3 is the next release recommended for all CICS customers, for deployment in large-scale production. It delivers a range of functions providing value over and above CICS TS V2.2 and is intended to be the replacement product for all previous versions including CICS V4.1 MVS/ESA, CICS TS 1.3 and CICS TS V2.2.
