June 26th marked the general availability of CICS Transaction Server V4.1 with it's Web 2.0 capabilities, Business event production and the CICS Explorer, touted as the new face of CICS but is really so much more than just a new front end when used in conjunction with the version 4 restful interfaces. This new version builds on the solid base provided by CICS TS v3.2 and the SupportPacs delivered during 2008, adding non-invasive emission of business events from CICS applications, extending the CICS model with RESTful APIs and Atom feeds to enable the creation of Web 2.0 applications, and supporting the CICS Explorer as the primary user interface for CICS developers, operators, and system programmers.
