Rich Media Presentations

Rich Media Presentations are a new method of delivering CICS presentations over the Web. They are audio-visual presentations, created using Macromedia® Flash® that can be downloaded and run on the Microsoft® Windows® 98, 2000 and XP operating systems.

Rich Media Presentations come complete with navigational controls, allowing you to view the information at your own convenience. They also come with a PDF version, so that you can print the complete set of presentation slides for your reference.

CICS Transaction Gateway V6.0: Part 1 – Business Value

This first in a three part series of short presentations covers the business value of transforming applications for use in mixed, CICS and WebSphere application workloads. It discusses the benefits of using standards based programmatic integration with CICS to deliver mixed workloads with good Qualities of Service. It shows how IBM enables the exploitation of an appropriate set of complementary Web service and Java based connectivity technologies to fully integrate your CICS systems.

Finally, it introduces the CICS Transaction Gateway and it its core concepts of 'plumbing', 'interfaces' and 'integration', along with a summary of the possible platform choices and architecture options. There is also a brief discussion of the supporting tools within the IBM Software Development Platform.

CICS Transaction Gateway V6.0: Part 2 – Technical Value

The second in a three part series of short presentations provides a high level technical introduction to the CICS Transaction Gateway. It introduces the technical value of moving to the standard Java 2 Enterprise Edition Connector Architecture (JCA), and its inherent application development and application management benefits. Some time is spent discussing the quantities of service relative to the various deployment options.

It also introduces the core competencies of performance, security and scalability in the CICS Transaction Gateway, and covers some of the reasons why it is a simple implementation. Finally, the four major areas in which significant enhancements have been made in CICS Transaction Gateway Version 6.0 are introduced.

CICS Transaction Gateway V6.0: Part 3 – Latest Enhancements

The third in a three part series of short presentations provide a more detailed introduction to the latest enhancements in CICS Transaction Gateway Version 6.0. It discusses how the CICS Transaction has taken it core competencies of high performing, secure, scalable easy to implement access to CICS and provided improved even further these areas.

The enhancements come in four major areas. Firstly, increased Qualities of Service (QoS) provide more power. Secondly improved systems management allows more control. Thirdly, better support for security delivers even more protection. Finally, enhanced ease of use further reduces complexity. This presentation introduces the enhancements made at a technical level, and demonstrates why CICS Transaction Gateway Version 6.0 provides significant value over and above previous versions.

CICS Transaction Server for z/OS e-business access to CICS - Strategic Options

This session sets out to answer many questions from customers on how ?best’ to connect from a particular client or server environment to a CICS asset, typically a business logic program with a COMMAREA interface.

Over many years CICS has made available a large choice of protocols, interfaces and APIs to connect to and from CICS servers.

Integrating WebSphere Application Server and CICS using the JCA

How can a new J2EE application connect to CICS? In many cases, the answer is to use the J2EE Connector Architecture (JCA), which defines a standard architecture for connecting the J2EE platform to heterogeneous Enterprise Information Systems (EIS), such as CICS.

The latest version of CICS Transaction Gateway provides support for the JCA, allowing the proven qualities of CICS to be exploited by J2EE applications running in IBM WebSphere® Application Server.

JCA and CICS: An Introduction to the J2EE Connector Architecture

How can you make the most of your existing CICS business logic in WebSphere Application Server applications?

The J2EE Connector Architecture is an industry standard for connecting to enterprise information systems like CICS.
