Features and benefits
CICS Transaction Gateway V7.2
CICS® Transaction Gateway (CICS TG) V7.2 introduces a range of new capabilities, which include:
Enhancing high availability by improving the ability to distribute requests across multiple CICS servers. (z/OS only)
Extending CICS integration for key client runtime environments including remote C or .NET applications, and WebSphere® Application Server V7 and BEA WebLogic Server runtimes.
Simplifying system management, though the provision of new systems management interfaces providing the ability for integration with the CICS Explorer.
High Availability (z/OS only)
CICS TG for z/OS V7.2 delivers enhanced capability to build a highly available connector solution capable of integration with the z/OS Sysplex Distributor and Resource Recovery Services. This new functionality improves business flexibility by allowing systems administrators greater control and management of their overall infrastructure, whilst maintaining transactional integrity. New enhancements include:
The ability to extend cloned Gateway configurations across the Parallel Sysplex® when providing XA support for global transactions from WebSphere Application Server
A customizable CICS request exit, enabling dynamic selection of CICS servers for the purpose of workload balancing and request retry
A facility for the remapping of CICS server names in ECI requests
New remote connectivity
CICS TG V7.2 delivers improved integration for new and existing client runtime environments. New capability is delivered through the provision of C runtime libraries and language bindings, enabling CICS COMMAREA applications to make requests from remote client environments and migration of ECI CICS Universal Client-based applications to a lightweight client footprint.
This support provides for potential usage in a wide variety of client runtime environments including C++, COBOL and, Microsoft .NET. Integration with the existing Gateway functionality provides support for one-phase commit transactions password authentication and request timeout. A redistributable multi-platform package for client application development and runtime support is provided.
In addition, J2EE application server support is extended, including support for the CICS JCA 1.5 resource adapters in both WebSphere Application Server V7.0 and BEA WebLogic Server V9 environments.
CICS Explorer integration
In addition, CICS TG V7.2 delivers a new Java™ API for systems monitoring, giving access to CICS TG runtime statistics from remote Java clients. This new API provides for integration with the CICS Explorer, which makes available a rich set of CICS views, data and methods through an Eclipse-based Rich Client Platform (RCP) environment. The CICS Explorer delivers an improved usability experience for administrating your integrated CICS product set.
Other capabilities
Several new systems management functions have also been provided including:
Requests from remote clients using the statistics API are now supported providing support for multi-stack TCP/IP systems and the development of remote monitoring solutions. A set of C language bindings and multi-platform runtime libraries are included in the redistributable package for client application development and runtime support
A new Java API for systems monitoring is provided, giving access to the CICS TG runtime statistics from remote Java clients. This new capabilities provides the ability to integrate with the CICS Explorer, a common, intuitive Eclipse RCP based environment for systems administration
An enhancement is provided to the request monitoring exit infrastructure allowing customized commands to be sent to exits. This new capability provides a simple solution for the dynamic control of customized monitoring
