What do you have to do with CICS?
I am a senior developer in the CICS Systems Management team (CICSPlex SM). I have worked in this area since June 1997. I like this because I get my hands dirty inside the system, as well polishing the outside.
What were you doing around 8th July 1969?
I was at school, approaching the end of term and looking forward to my summer holidays. I believe I was also looking forward to the launch of Apollo 11. In those days I knew all the missions and astronauts by name. Sadly the lunar missions didn't last long after that, but if they had performed for as long and as well as CICS has, maybe mankind would have reached the stars by now!
Fondest CICS related memory
I can't put my finger on any single instance. The announcement of the next release always gives me a buzz, so that I can claim my involvement in it with friends outside of IBM. I made some good friends when I got sent on a CICS 1.7 trouble shooting trip to Raleigh in 1985. I also solved the problem - one of my finest hours!
“If CICS was to disappear tomorrow…..”
...I'd go back to being a dustman (but that's another story).
