Linux supports open source platform software with I18N specifications
Linux overview

Internationalization is a key element in the continued worldwide growth of Linux and Open Source. OpenI18N sets up the Globalization specifications for Open Source Software, defining the internationalization framework and localization variables (locales) such as language, currency, time, input display, print format, paper size, address, phone number, date and name formats, and calendaring.

OpenI18N also handles advanced capabilities like shape editing, writing direction, and character combinations (ligatures) — features needed to render a number of languages such as Indic and Thai — and multilingual input methods. OpenI18N also includes a comprehensive test suite and documentation.
