jStart™ and a major telecommunications company explores mashups

From IBM jStart Headquarters, June 27, 2009

In support of an enterprise-wide IBM Mashup Center opportunity at a major telecommunications company, the jStart Team developed a restaurant locator mashup, allowing a subscriber to view and listen to his voicemail messages, determine the location of a selected friend who has left him a message, find a restaurant convenient to that location, and communicate with his friend via SMS (Simple Messaging Service). The location and presence services were provided through IBM's WebSphere Telecom Web Services Server, operating at IBM's Telecommunications Solution Lab (TSL) in Austin, TX. By utilizing experimental transcoding technology from the Yamato Software Lab, the mashup was made available on an iPhone in addition to a PC browser.

2.3 trillion text messages were sent in 2008, every day 1 million hours are spent browsing Google Maps and Google Earth geo content

How the jStart Team Was Involved

The team built on the success of the mashup by conducting a workshop to assist the client in defining additional uses for mashups. These activities, in combination with excellent support from IBM's Information Management Mashup Center team are examples of how the jStart team can help jump start your company's efforts with IBM Mashup Center.
