Smarter Healthcare: How jStart is leading the way to reduce costs and mitigate risks with emerging technology

From IBM jStart Headquarters, August 3, 2009

Recently, as part of IBM's smarter healthcare inditiative, jStart has partnered with IBM's Information Management to explore how emerging technologies might be used to engage the healthcare industry. Real solutions leveraging jStart technologies, including Bluespruce, Massive Mashups, and LanguageWare™ represent the efforts jStart is contributing to the Smarter Healthcare initiative.

By 2010, 30% of the data stored on the world's computers will be medical images.

Why Smarter Healthcare is Important

Healthcare is being pummelled with large amounts of data. But the industry suffers from the continuing financial constraints that have plagued the industry for years. A way to break through those constraints and land engagements? jStart has found that focusing in on solutions which can demonstrably save healthcare providers significantly and/or reduce their risks goes a long way to getting the attention of the healthcare industry. A recent workshop with a large university medical center centered around how by using emerging technologies, the center could save significant expenditures in both time and money--while simultaneously enhancing patient care.

Medical imagery of cervical spine surgery Medical imaging, such as this one of a cervical spine surgery/anterior fusion of portions of the spine, will soon make up a significant portion of data stored in medical systems.

Our commitment to a smarter planet

Being at the forefront of emerging technologies for IBM, jStart has naturally been involved in creating smarter, more intelligent systems since it's inception. Most recently, the team has focused on creating more intelligent content syndication systems, intelligent, cross-communications widgets, intelligently gathering diverse and complex unstructured data and analyzing and visualizing such data, and intelligently instrumenting existing networks for event detection and response.
