In 2004, IBM and approximately forty other industry-leading companies formed the IBM Data Governance Council to form a set of best practices on how to better govern their data holistically. While technology is an enabler, information governance requires people to drive positive organizational behavior and processes put in place to help enforce and enhance policies over time. One of the key assets defined was the Information Governance Maturity Model.
An Information Governance Workshop
Not sure where to begin? Start with an IBM Information Governance Maturity Model Assessment (link resides outside of ibm.com). This workshop assesses and measures the maturity of information governance within the organizations across 11 disciplines such as organizational awareness, risk lifecycle management, compliance, auditing, security, data stewardship, etc. Every customer is unique. IBM consultants work with the customer using specially designed tools to provide as series or recommendations and actions based on the company's unique stage of information governance in order to match the needs of the businesses, avoiding a one-size-fits-all approach.
