Features and benefits
IBM® DB2 Performance Expert V3.2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows provides a comprehensive and proactive performance management solution for database applications.
Use IBM DB2 Performance Expert V3.2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows to:
Monitor and analyze multiple DB2 instances running a wide variety of workloads – OLTP, data warehouse, and enterprise content management -- all from a single control point.
Analyze real time data to see what is happening now.
Leverage historical data in the performance warehouse to automate analysis and reporting, analyze trends, and plan for growth.
Identify resource shortages and exceptional conditions in DB2 and the underlying operating system, including:
Locking conflicts and deadlocks.
Applications and SQL statements causing high workloads.
Buffer pool, cache and heap sizes.
Table space full.
CPU, memory, file system shortages.
Partition full or data skew
Alert administrators by email or page when events occur to find and fix problems before they affect the business.
Monitor Workload Management (WLM ) entities statistics, and activities over time to validate WLM definitions. Use DB2 Performance Expert with the DB2 9.5 WLM to:
Monitor service classes, workloads, and work classes.
Obtain sophisticated usage statistics and definitions
View real-time data and historical data.
Understand workload at a point in time.
Understand workload patterns and long-term development issues.
Derive effective service classes and thresholds.
Perform workload analysis for workload profiling and accounting.
Reduce costs for deployment with Version 3.2 with the inclusion of restricted-use licenses for
DB2 Data Server Client for PE Client connectivity.
DB2 Enterprise Server Edition to store and manage captured performance statistics within the DB2 Performance Expert server. The no-charge DB2 database license encourages organizations to use more powerful computer hardware to scale up their performance warehouse database to capture and retain more performance data, which yields both quicker problem determination and more accurate trend analysis
DB2 Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature
Extend the value of DB2 Performance Expert with the separately orderable DB2 Performance Expert Extended Insight Feature to provide end-to-end database monitoring for Java database applications. It extends database monitoring across the database client, the application server, and the network, giving DBAs immediate insight into where database workloads, transactions, and SQL requests are spending their time, With this feature, you can:
Improve availability of mission-critical Java database applications. Detect negative trends sooner including: eroding response times for database APIs; network congestion between the application and the database; or other factors key to sustaining service level agreements.
Manage applications to meet service level agreements more easily and effectively. Now DBAs can see the response time for single SQL requests or complete database transactions from the applications point of view, enabling creation of performance indicators that more directly relate to the user's experience.
Reduce the time needed to isolate performance issues from days down to minutes. Use graphical displays to see where workloads, transactions, and SQL requests originate in the application, and how the time spent is spread across the database client, the application server, the database server, and the network between them. Filter by application, database, user, or other criteria
Improve collaboration and resolution of performance problems across the software stack by providing additional performance indicators such as connection pool wait times and other vital database-related performance statistics when used with WebSphere Application Server
