IBM Spatial Solutions
IBM Spatial Solutions provide the database capabilities to help organizations manage and deliver spatial data on demand. To give you maximum flexibility, IBM delivers several spatial solutions to manage spatial data designed to work with geospatial applications from ESRI®, leaders in geographic information system (GIS) technology, as well as other third party and open source GIS client software. Based on open industry-based standards, IBM Spatial Solutions offer high levels of performance and scalability, ease application development and can help lower the total cost of ownership.
Spatial Data and the Mainframe Advantage
IBM White Paper on Spatial Data, IBM Geographic information systems (GIS) are mission-critical IT solutions for many businesses and governments. An Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) GIS solution with IBM mainframe technology delivers functionality and benefits that are unmatched. GIS clients can now expect the same enterprise-class advantages that banking, insurance and other vital enterprises have come to depend on for years - reliability, availability, security and scalability.
Infrastructure Recommendations for an ESRI and IBM Geographic Information System
IBM® and ESRI have formed a global alliance to create the world’s leading geographic information system (GIS) software, Web services, and hardware infrastructure. ESRI supplies the GIS software, Web services, and spatial data, and IBM provides the software, hardware, and services critical to making spatial applications enterprise-ready. Together, ESRI and IBM can provide GIS solutions for government and business, as well as system design, installation, and training services.

2008 IDUG Solutions Journal – Intelligent Optimizer: Enterprise Spatial Solution with DB2 9 for z/OS
This article introduces the spatial capability supported by DB2 9 for z/OS. It enables out-of-the-box enterprise spatial solution in the z/OS environment by the integration with existing OGC-conforming GIS servers and applications such as ESRI’s ArcGIS 9.3. DB2 customers will be able to run GIS applications in the same database where the business data is located.

Presentation slides for the 2007 IDUG Conference Spatial Presentation in Athens, Greece
Demonstrations and Samples
Spatial Presentation – Insurance Demo
A presentation of a spatial demo developed by IBM utilizing Spatial Support for DB2 9 for z/OS. The scenario is an insurance company employing spatial capabilities to manage resources and make effective decisions.
Spatial Presentation – Nashville Demo
A presentation of a spatial demo developed by IBM utilizing ESRI’s ArcGIS Desktop and ArcSDE software. The scenario is the downtown section of Nashville, Tennessee wants to spatially manage the property parcels. In this case, we will specifically look at the flood zone and how it affects the property parcels.
Podcast/Webcast/Teleconference
Storage and Management of Spatial Data on an IBM System z Mainframe
Listen to an interview with Dan Wardman, vice president for Information Management Software, and Frank Butt, manager, DB2 for z/OS Query Runtime, Text Search and Spatial Support for IBM. The topic is the storage and management of spatial data on an IBM System z Mainframe. Spatial support is an important feature available for DB2 9 for z/OS, as it provides the capability to store and retrieve spatial data from any application via standard SQL. Applications and IBM's relationship with ESRI are also discussed.
Enterprise Spatial Data Management: The value of geographic data for business applications
The IBM DB2 database, with newly announced spatial support in DB2 9 for z/OS, provides a foundation to manage location data that is designed to work with geospatial applications from ESRI.
