The DB2 Spatial Extender User's Guide and Reference explains how to set up a DB2 UDB database so that it can house spatial data, how to generate and store the data, and how to invoke functions within a program to retrieve it. The book documents three interfaces through which you can set up the database, generate spatial data, and store it -- the DB2 Control Center, the Spatial Extender command-line processor (CLP) and stored procedures. The book also describes in detail each function with which you can retrieve the data. This book is for database administrators (DBAs) who need to manage spatial data in a DB2 UDB database. It is also for programmers who want to write applications that can query such data, either by itself or in conjunction with relational data. To apply information in this book, DBAs need to know the fundamentals of database administration, and programmers need to know the SQL dialect that DB2 UDB uses. For all readers, it is helpful, but not necessary, to be familiar with geographic information systems (GISs), structured data types, and computational geometry. DB2 Spatial Extender Version 8 release notes The Version 8 release notes (PDF, 304KB) contain information about DB2 Spatial Extender Version 8 that was not available when the latest version of the DB2 Spatial Extender Users Guide and Reference was completed.
