Overview
DB2® Spatial Extender allows you to store, manage, and analyze spatial data in DB2 Universal Database™.
With this capability, you can generate, analyze & exploit spatial information about geographic features, such as the locations of office buildings or the size of a flood zone.
- DB2 Spatial Extender extends the function of DB2 Universal Database with a set of advanced spatial data types that represent geometries such as points, lines, and polygons and many functions and features that interoperate with those new data types. These capabilities allow you to integrate spatial information with your business data, adding another element of intelligence to your database.
- DB2 Spatial Extender implements types and functions defined by ISO SQL/MM and Open GeoSpatial Consortium (OGC) specifications, allowing customers to leverage the power of SQL for spatial data analysis.
- DB2 Spatial Extender is supported by industry-leading spatial and GIS applications and tools such as: Esri's ArcGIS Server and Business Analyst; MapInfo® MapXtreme® for Java; and GeoTools, GeoServer and uDig open source projects.
- The capabilities of DB2 Spatial Extender for Linux, UNIX and Windows are now also available as the Spatial Support for DB2 9 for z/OS.
- A free IBM geobrowser is available which allows you to easily select a table from a list of spatial tables in a DB2 database, display the geometries in the table using selectable symbology (color, line width, label font) and save a map document which can be used later to reload the map. You can use the mouse to zoom in/out on the map and display the attributes of a selected object. Get Started Today!
