Optim Development Studio

Speed data access design, development, and deployment while increasing data access efficiency and performance.

Features and benefits

Optim Development Studio is an integrated database development environment that speeds application design, development, and deployment while increasing data access efficiency and performance. Using Optim Development Studio, you can develop and test routines, generate and deploy data-centric Web services, create and run SQL and XQuery queries, and develop and optimize Java™ applications. Optim Development Studio can be use used with pureQuery Runtime to improve application performance, security, and manageability. Integrated with the Rational Software Delivery Platform, Optim Development Studio complements and extends the capabilities of Rational Application Developer, Rational Developer for System z, and Rational Business Developer.

Use Optim Development Studio to:

Design data access queries and routines routines taking advantage of analysis of current data distribution. Use entity-relationship (ER) diagrams to visualize designs. For enhanced capability in designing and modeling data and integration, install Optim Development Studio with InfoSphere Data Architect.

Build, test, optimize and deploy SQL and Java stored procedures with the interactive routine debugger. Leverage drag and drop query builders and comprehensive SQL and XQuery editors with interactive feedback for Oracle, DB2, and Informix.

Use contextual SQL assistance inside the Java editor editor including SQL assistance, validation, execution, and analysis.

Deliver data directly into new or existing Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) solutions. Create Web services from vetted database assets by dragging and dropping existing SQL statements or stored procedures. Deploy Web services with WebSphere® DataPower® XML Integration Appliance XI50 appliances and Java Message Service (JMS) for robust Web service applications where guaranteed delivery is a must.

Generate a pureQuery data access layer and test application using Java objects, JSON, or XML. Customize code generation for your environment. Enhance data access using pureQuery features that simplify the use of SQL and Java best practices such as batching updates to a single table or to multiple tables in a single request.

Capture SQL from new or existing Java applications for analysis and optimization. Use with custom-built applications, with popular frameworks such as iBatis, Spring, Hibernate, and OpenJPA, and with packaged applications when you don’t even have the source code. Built-in integration with the WebSphere Application Server V7 Java Persistence API implementation simplifies use with pureQuery.

Review, share, optimize, and lock down SQL. Enable collaboration between developers and DBAs. Visualize SQL "hot spots" within the application. Analyze the access plan using Visual Explain. Lock down SQL to eliminate SQL injection risks. Through seamless integration with Optim Query Tuner, developers and administrators can easily access expert SQL tuning advice during development with expert advisors and recommendations.

Enhance performance, security, and manageability – without changing a line of code. Bind and deploy new and existing applications, procedures, and services for static execution on DB2 databases. Choose between dynamic, static, or mixed mode execution at deployment time, rather than development time.

Use static execution to:

Enable developers to quickly create test databases using a simple copy-paste user interface. Readily visualize sensitive data and create right-sized, production-like, fictionalized test data by integrating with InfoSphere Data Architect, Optim Test Data Management and Optim Data Privacy solutions.

Facilitate problem determination by visualizing the correlation between SQL statements, Java source code, and database objects. Trace problematic SQL to the issuing code, even if it is generated by a Java framework!

Simplify impact analysis by visualizing the SQL impact by proposed schema changes. Navigate to affected objects in the Data Source Explorer or start with the DDL changes provided by the DBA and visualize the impacted SQL and source code in your Java application.

Perform standard object management tasks for your development or test environment such as creating and altering database objects and managing privileges. For enhanced change management capabilities including script-controlled complex database changes for DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows, install Optim Development Studio with Optim Database Administrator.

Enhance team alignment, control, and efficiency through integration with the IBM Rational Software Delivery Platform V7.5. Users can combine tools within the same Eclipse instance, providing seamless movement between data-centric roles, or share objects across geographically distributed teams.
