Information Management software
Technical detail

Storage Management, Security, and System Management

STORAGE MANAGEMENT:
  • Storage Management balances the need for immediate access to documents, retention requirements for long periods, and optimized storage costs. For example, bank statements may have an active life of three months during which they reside on magnetic storage; after the active life ends, they need to be retained many years for legal and audit needs.
  • OnDemand uses Tivoli® Storage Manager (TSM) for archive storage management across optical and tape devices. For each report defined to the system, numerous rules can be specified:
    • the length of time that a version of the report should be maintained by the system,
    • whether the report should be stored in cache storage or archive storage, and
    • how long the report should be maintained in cache storage.
  • Supported devices for AIX, HP, Sun and Windows.
  • TSM also manages migration of data between tape and optical storage devices and manages backup or disaster recovery. Effective utilization can be immediately improved with high compression ratios, ranging from 4:1 to 30:1 depending on the type of data.

SECURITY:
  • Built-in security lets administrators control access to the system or access to reports and documents which can be limited by type or section of a report. For example, a user can be restricted to statements for specific account numbers, and individual functions, such as printing, can also be restricted.
  • Content Manager OnDemand has extensive support for various Web standards, including Java™, Applets, HTTP server access, and Web Browsers, which makes information easily accessible, available, and secure over the Web.

SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT:
  • An administrative client provides central control of servers, configuration, report definition, and security management.
  • OnDemand messages and statistics are written to a system logging facility.
    • Information in the system log can be used to generate usage reports and audit reports.
    • The system log can be queried by the client or accessed by defining a user exit program.
