Cubing Services for OLAP
OLAP is a core component of data warehousing and analytics. It gives users the ability to interrogate data by intuitively navigating from summary to detail data.
New for InfoSphere Warehouse 9.5 is Cubing Services -- a multidimensional analysis server that enables OLAP applications access to terabyte data volumes via industry standard OLAP connectivity.
InfoSphere Warehouse OLAP functionality includes multi-dimensional support for dimensions, hierarchies, measures, and summarizations. Provides cross-dimensional calculations, and time series and parallel period analyses. Dimensional navigation allows slice, dice, drill, and pivot.
The Design Studio tooling enables you to create, edit, import, export, and deploy OLAP models over the relational warehouse schema.

Components and Utilities
Design Center for Creating OLAP objects
With the InfoSphere Warehouse Design Studio, you can create, manipulate, import, or export cube models, cubes and other metadata objects to be used in OLAP tools. The Design Studio provides easy-to-use wizards and windows to help you work with your metadata. For example, the Optimization Advisor analyzes your metadata and recommends how to build summary tables that store and index aggregated data for your OLAP-style SQL queries.
Administration Console
The InfoSphere Warehouse Administration Console is a Web-based application for managing and monitoring business intelligence (BI) applications. Installed with the WebSphere Application Server, the InfoSphere Warehouse Administration Console uses Web clients to access and deploy, schedule, and monitor data warehouse applications modeled and designed in InfoSphere Warehouse Design Studio. The InfoSphere Warehouse Administration Console provides OLAP and cubing functions to manage cube servers and cubes, import metadata, and optimize OLAP queries. You can use the cubing component of InfoSphere Warehouse to streamline the deployment and management of OLAP solutions and improve the performance of OLAP tools and applications. With the Administration Console, you can:
- Create, remove, start, stop, or restart a cube server
- Add, remove, start, stop, or restart a cube. You can also rebuild a cube's member cache and empty the data cache for a cube v Import metadata into the InfoSphere Warehouse metadata database
- Run the Optimization Advisor and analyze summary table usage
Alphablox BloxBuilder
The new Alphablox Blox Builder in integrated into the InfoSphere Warehouse Design Studio and provides an easy to use, drag and drop interface that accelerates the delivery of user friendly analytical applications. Alphablox provides a low cost reporting and analysis framework for delivering custom built analytical applications that can be deployed on their own or integrated into business applications, such as J2EE applications and Enterprise Portals. Alphablox Blox Builder applications can be developed and deployed by staff that only has BI experience. Knowledge of the database schema is not required.
Sample data
A sample application and database are available to help you learn. You can exchange metadata objects between the DB2 catalog and OLAP tools. To import or export metadata objects to or from the DB2 catalog, utilities called metadata bridges are available for specific OLAP and data base tools.
