Informix OnLine Extended Edition

Informix OnLine Extended Edition 5.20 contains two popular Informix products -- Informix OnLine and Informix STAR -- and provides distributed computing with a proven database server. Key features of this latest version Informix OnLine Extended Edition include:

• Support for pipe connectivity -- This feature allows the Rapid Application Development (RAD) tools -- such as Informix 4GL and Informix SQL 7.31 or later -- to use pipes to communicate with OnLine Extended Edition 5.20 servers running on the same machine, instead of having to use a TCP/IP loopback connection with Informix Star or Informix Net. Customers who use OnLine Extended Edition 5.20 with the 7.31 tools can save the cost of purchasing Informix Net or Informix Star separately. Customers who are still using the version 4.x tools can upgrade to OnLine Extended Edition 5.20, and take advantage of the many language enhancements in the version 7.31 tools.
  
  
• Support for greater than 2GB chunk offsets -- This performance-related feature allows customers to utilize the entire capacity of the disk drive without partitioning it into smaller logical devices and employing logical volume managers. This capability increases the return-on-investment (ROI) by maximizing the use of the latest computer hardware with greater storage capacity -- saving the cost of purchasing third-party storage management solutions.
  
  
• Support for Linux -- Linux is a major platform for database and application servers. IBM Informix OnLine Extended Edition for Linux provides a proven, easy-to-manage database offering high performance, stability and reliability. Together Linux and IBM Informix OnLine Extended Edition for Linux are the building blocks for success in e-business.
  
  By popular demand from the International Informix Users Group (IIUG), IBM Informix OnLine Personal Edition, version 5.20 is now available. This single-user product -- available only on Linux -- provides the same functionality as IBM Informix OnLine at a more economical cost.
