  IDS 7.31.UDx product support extension

IBM is extending the planned dates for end-of-service (EOS) and end-of-marketing (EOM) for IBM Informix® Dynamic Server (IDS) 7.31 to protect customers' investment in the Informix technology. Accordingly, the revised end-of-service date for IDS 7.31 is September 2009; the new end-of-marketing date for IDS 7.31 is September 2008.

For details, please refer to the Informix product lifecycle page. We recommend that customers upgrade to the latest version of IDS to take advantage of improved quality and enhanced functionality.

Support policy for other IBM Informix products

IBM Informix 4GL, IBM Informix Client Software Development Kit (Client SDK) and other IBM Informix tools will follow the currently published product lifecycle. We recommend that:
  • Customers using Informix Client SDK upgrade to version 2.81 or later.

  • IBM Informix 4GL customers upgrade to 7.32 or later.

  • Customers using other IBM Informix tools upgrade to the latest version of those tools

Compatibility between IDS 7.31 and other IBM Informix products

All supported IBM Informix products are, and will continue to be, compatible with supported IDS 7.31 releases. To find compatibility information for individual products, please refer to the Informix Product Release Notes.

Upgrade considerations for IBM Informix Client SDK and Informix 4GL/ISQL

Informix Client SDK
  • Applications using shared libraries will not need recompilation on upgrade.

  • While applications built using static libraries do not require recompilation on upgrade, upgraded applications will not benefit from any changed/new functionality and defect fixes until they are recompiled.

Informix 4GL/ISQL

  • IBM Informix 4GL Rapid Development System: Applications developed using IBM Informix 4GL Rapid Development System will need recompilation on upgrade.

  • IBM Informix 4GL C Compile: Applications using shared libraries will need recompilation on upgrade.

  • IBM Informix 4GL C Compile: While applications built using static libraries do not require recompilation on upgrade, upgraded applications will not benefit from any changed/new functionality and defect fixes until they are recompiled.

    Note: Customers upgrading from IBM Informix 4GL C Compile version 7.31.xx to 7.32.xx can establish the softlink from lib4gsh731.so to lib4gsh732.so to avoid recompilation.
