As of July 24, 2006
On July 24th, 2006 IBM published the first transaction processing benchmark for DB2 9. This TPC-C result with DB2 9 was run on a 64 core IBM System p5 595 and delivered an incredible 4,016,222 tpmC (transactions per minute) with a price performance of just 2.98 $/tpmC.
This result is 2.5x better than the best Oracle result. The DB2 9 price performance was also 40% better than Oracle's.
The benchmark simulated 3.2 million users of the database with a simulation of 320,000 warehouses to handle their orders; this equates to every country in the world having 1,658 warehouses. In fact, this simulated company has over 9.6 billion customers - that’s about 50% more than the population of the world at 6.6 billion people. The level of performance delivered by DB2 9 could complete a new purchase for every person in the planet in a mere 3 days!
