Features and Benefits
IMS Performance Analyzer provides a wide variety of performance, usage and availability reports. IMS Performance Analyzer has become the standard for IMS resource and performance management and can help:
Analyze transaction response time
Measure the usage and availability of important resources; including databases, programs, regions, buffers (including database), and queues (message and other internal queues)
Plan for the operational management of IMS, including the scheduling of database re-orgs, monitoring adherence to service levels, charge-back accounting, and capacity planning
Monitor significant system events like System and Batch Messaging Program (BMP) checkpoints and deadlocks that can adversely affect system performance and availability
Boost system and application programmer productivity
Report critical performance information at the required level of detail; from high level management summaries and graphical reports to detailed traces for in-depth analysis
Analyze the impact of IMS Connect on transaction performance
IMS Performance Analyzer for z/OS, V4.2 provides significant enhancements improving functionality and usability of the product which include:
New and improved transaction transit reports
Improved processing efficiency and problem determination by creating the transaction Index record for each IMS transaction
Consolidated IMS Connect and IMS log transit reporting
OMEGAMON TRF form-based transit reporting including full transaction accounting, as well as DLI and DB2 call trace and summary
Enhancements to several existing log reports
Enhanced DBRC Log selection to use the DBRC RECON API and to optionally select OLDS data sets
IMSPLEX authorization
In addition to the existing transit reports, a suite of form-based transit reports provide the ability to customize report content and format. With this you can:
- Use Report Forms to tailor the contents of transit reports to include only required metrics or summarize information according to your requirements
- Design your own transit reports using the Report Forms editor (no programming required)
- Create form-based extracts and export to DB2
- Request any number of 30 different form-based reports in a single job run
- Use form-based transit reports for IMS log, IMS Connect, and OMEGAMON TRF reporting
- Use IMS log transaction transit reporting to provide:
- More accurate transit times by exploiting additional log record types
- Microsecond precision for all elapsed times
- Additional transit performance indicators and resource usage metrics
- Improved distribution reporting as an alternative to peak percentiles and to monitor service levels
- Enhanced Fast Path reporting
Consolidated IMS Connect and IMS log transit reporting - The reporting for IMS Connect Extensions for z/OS (5655-S56) Event data now provides end-to-end IMS Connect and IMS log reporting. The Connect Transit reports provide a complete picture of the lifecycle of transactions as they pass through IMS Connect and IMS.
View Connect event latencies and IMS transaction processing metrics including queue times, CPU, and database resource usage statistics in a single report
Report Forms allow you to tailor the contents of Connect transit reports to include only required metrics or summarize information according to your requirements
The Connect Event Trace can include IMS Connect and IMS Log records in a single report, providing a complete end-to-end transaction lifecycle picture
Enhanced log reporting - Enhancements to IMS Performance Analyzer log reports include:
Transaction Resource Usage report orders by Program name for DBCTL
Database Update Activity report optionally orders by Database and Program
Message Queue Utilization report optionally shows only enqueued messages
Fast Path Buffer Usage report substitutes job name for routing code for BMPs
Deadlock Summary report enhanced to more levels of detail
System Checkpoint report provides a distribution of checkpoint activity
Internal Resource Usage reports include Virtual Storage Usage, IMODULE Statistics, EWLM Statistics, 64-bit Cache Storage Manager, and 64-bit Fast Path Buffer Manager statistics
Cold start analysis report provides a point-in-time snapshot of in-train activity, helpful in the event of a cold start
Gap analysis report identifies periods of time where log records are not being cut, potentially highlighting an external system event that may have caused IMS to slow down
MSC Link Statistics report provides send and receive message activity and I/O time analysis
Transaction Index contains a record for each IMS transaction that accumulates all information from the IMS log about that transaction
Enhanced monitor reporting - IMS Performance Analyzer monitor reports include options to exclude BMPs from reporting or include only BMPs. Comprehensive IMS monitor reporting includes Fast Path and the new Synchronous call-out elapsed time analysis.
OMEGAMON TRF reporting - IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE for IMS Transaction Recording Facility (TRF) collects detailed transaction accounting, performance and resource utilization information for IMS transactions. IMS Performance Analyzer provides a suite of form-based transit reports to analyze this data.
DBRC Log Selection provides the following new enhancements:
Use of the DBRC RECON API in place of the DBRC utility DSPURX00
Optional selection of OLDS data sets when no SLDS data sets are available for up-to-date report requests
Uses the READONLY API option (IMS V10 or later) - users now require only read access to the RECON data sets
IMSPLEX authorization exit to prevent accidental disabling of the RECON data sets
Optionally use secondary SLDS files, to relieve availability contraint on primary copies
Support for the DBRCGRP parameter
Connect file selection supports active journals, for when a report request needs recent data not yet archived
ISPF dialog enhancements include support for:
- New Report Forms allowing you to tailor the format of Transit reports to suit your personal reporting requirements
- Including Connect systems in groups to allow combined IMS Connect and Log reporting
- IMS system definitions specifying OMEGAMON TRF Extractor files in addition to IMS Log and Monitor data sets
- Log Report Set providing a suite of new form-based transit reports
- Connect Report Set providing a suite of new form-based transit reports and the ability to combine Connect and IMS log information in a single report
- TRF Report Set providing form-based transit reporting from OMEGAMON TRF Extractor files to provide detailed IMS transaction accounting statistics, including DLI and DB2 calls
