Venedim, an IBM Business Partner and technology services consulting company based in France, specializes in delivering high technology value for infrastructures through techniques like virtualization, storage and clustering. The company uses IBM Data Management software, including DB2 9.7, to improve clients ROI, automate maintenance tasks, and guarantee optimal performance in simple or complex contexts, such as using high availability or replication solutions.
Venedim participated in the DB2 9.7 early access program so it could test the new features that its clients will be using. The company’s service area covers architecture, development and production, and helps clients audit, tune and optimize applications running on DB2 and migrate from Oracle to DB2 Linux, Unix and Windows.
“The portability and availability features have been greatly improved and are the most brilliant features from the labs,” said Jean-Marc Blaise, technical architect, Venedim. “You no longer have to migrate and painfully transcode your Oracle code. Instead, there is a simple flag that will let you compile and run your PL/SQL as is. This is dialect support from a language, SQL, and during my testing with DB2 9.7 using sample, complex customer applications, I only had to make a few changes. IBM has succeeded in making things smoother to allow portability from the Oracle side, but they also didn’t compromise the generics of the code. Furthermore, DB2 features have been extended as well, like the support of compiled functions. Developers can now choose to code in DB2 SQL/PL or Oracle PL/SQL language, depending on their skills, which is very important for company investments.”
