The optional DB2 Performance Optimization Feature gives you the insight and ability to optimize workload execution. This feature can save you money and lower your risks by helping you to do more work with your existing hardware, ensure Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met or exceeded and increase DBA productivity.
The Performance Optimization Feature includes three capabilities: DB2 Workload Manager, DB2 Performance Expert, and DB2 Query Patroller.
DB2 Workload Manager
DB2 Workload Manager gives you low overhead, fine grained control over the DB2 execution environment, including CPU and prefetch priority assigned to a particular workload, as well as the ability to execute workloads according to different business priorities. Use this control to reduce the risk of SLA failure by prioritizing execution of business critical workloads. At the same time, use this control to save money by throttling low priority work until it can execute without impacting the high priority work. Load balancing results in better utilization of existing hardware, which can help you delay your next server upgrade.
DB2 Workload Manager enhancements include a powerful new time-based control mechanism that can be quickly configured and deployed to automatically throttle low priority workloads. Other additions include bufferpool I/O prioritization and integration with Linux workload management, all of which give you even more control over the DB2 execution environment.
DB2 Performance Expert
Manual performance tuning is expensive because it's labor intensive and requires high skill. DB2 Performance Expert reduces that cost by providing GUI tooling which makes it easy to identify database parameters that need tuning with just a few mouse clicks. With DB2 Performance Expert, spend less time performance troubleshooting, which means they have more time to devote other matters important to your business.
DB2 Query Patroller
Tried-n-true technology, DB2 Query Patroller proactively and dynamically controls the flow of queries against the database. DB2 Query Patroller was the predecessor of DB2 workload manager but continues to be fully supported.
