Features and benefits
IBM® Content Manager ImagePlus® for OS/390® (CMIP/390) is designed to manage very large volumes of document-based information in high-transaction rate applications. It is packaged as two products: the Content Manager ImagePlus for OS/390 Folder Application Facility (FAF) and the Content Manager ImagePlus Object Distribution Facility (IODM).
FAF (product number 5655-A27) provides the library and application functions within CMIP/390.
The base, folder, document management, and workstation Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) allow CMIP/390 to integrate smoothly with either mainframe or workstation applications to manage objects within folders and retrieve them for viewing. (Note:FAF API supports the ISO date format.)
The Folder and Workflow Application (FWA) provides a user interface to the folders and provides the indexing and subsequent workflow capabilities of CMIP/390.
The Batch API feature provides a batch implementation of a selected set of the previously mentioned APIs.
When the user selects a document from a folder, FAF sends a request to ODM, which then determines where the object is stored, retrieves the object, and sends it to the workstation.
Object migration among storage devices is automatic, based upon predetermined requirements that can be specific to each type of object. ODM works in conjunction with the System Managed Storage (SMS) capabilities of the MVS environment to provide this capability.
IODM also
supports all OAM storage classes
supports TCP/IP connected Windows® 95 and Windows NT® workstations. You can mix and match workstations between APPC and TCP/IP
recognizes up to 30,600 bytes of MGDS data (data from Bar-code or OCR).
uses the CICS® sockets interface and the standard CICS listener to receive requests from the remote API interface.
allows multiple objects classes to be stored via batch, allowing IODM to become a server for more than MO:DCA objects (TIFF, JPEG, any launchable program, etc.). Each object type has a unique content class which enables IODM to store the objects independently. Intelligent IODM distributed processing (a forerunner to parallel sysplex full enablement) allows parallel sysplex datasharing.
can retrieve objects transparently to the application and end-user, using remote synchronous retrieve and prefetch
allows modification of non-image objects (coded data), depending on client capabilities
