Kate Tomchik
After disrupting her father’s senior year at Middlebury College in Vermont, Kate moved at 4 months old to Atlanta, Georgia. She has lived there her whole life with the exception of a 4 year stint in Troy, New York, to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). Her Degree there was in Mechanical Engineering with a Computer Science Minor. She next got a Master of Science in Computer Information Systems from Georgia State University. Her first job out of college was at Lockheed Aeronautical where she worked in the Computer Aided Manufacturing department. It was here that she began designing systems in DB2 and Nomad II on the IBM Mainframe. Later at Lockheed she worked in Ingress Database. At Lanier Business Systems she worked first in Progress and then in Informix. She wrote one of the first outbound marketing systems for them in 1989. So she has been working with Informix for 20 years. Kate has now been at The Home Depot for 14 years. THD has allowed the South East Informix User Group (SEIUG) to have meetings in their auditorium on a yearly basis. Kate was originally hired as an Informix DBA, but has also worked in DB2 LUW and Sql Server. THD gave her permission to run for the IIUG Board of Directors in 2004, and she has been on the board since then. Kate loves to spend her free time at Dart league and attending Poker Tournaments. Kate resides with her three children, Rachel 18, Nathan 15, and Garret 5.
