Graduated in 1993 as a commercial engineer, Werner started his professional career with Belgacom where he was responsible as a finance director for several business units.
Amongst other projects, he launched ADSL, financially managed the Corporate Customers Divisions, the network division and also ICT. After his Belgacom years, he moved to BPost as finance director for the mail division and later on was promoted to Group Controller, responsible for managing the budgeting and forecasting cycle together with the Strategic planning and regulatory accounting.
In 2009, he moved to the De Lijn where he assumed responsibility of both Finance & ICT on an executive level.
