XL C is a standards-based, high performance C compiler with advanced optimizing and debugging features.
IBM XL C gives you the ability to optimize and tune applications for superior execution on IBM Power System servers supporting Power Architecture including POWER6 processor-based servers and IBM BladeCenter servers.
- IBM XL C for AIX, V10.1 is the follow-on release to IBM XL C Enterprise Edition for AIX, V9.0 and is available as a separate orderable product, or as an included component of XL C/C++ for AIX, V10.1
- Is intended for use on machines running AIX V5.3, AIX V6.1 and i5/OS PASE
- Includes powerful code optimization options that manipulate generated compiler output for optimal performance
- Enhancements to -qstrict. There are 16 new suboptions. These new strict suboptions give you greater control over optimization transformations
- Supports the VMX instruction set, including support for the AltiVec programming model and APIs
- Supports the OpenMP API Version 3.0 specification, and related compiler options let you exploit symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) architectures with automatic parallelization of C program code as well as explicit parallelization of specifically selected sections of code
- Also includes facilities to help you port application code from GNU C
