Features and benefits
IBM Software Configuration and Library Manager (SCLM) is a program that provides software configuration and library management for the z/OS® and OS/390® platforms. The SCLM Administrator Toolkit provides you with a set of tools that make defining and maintaining SCLM projects and the SCLM products simpler and easier than ever before. The administrator functions are accessible from either a workstation-based graphical interface or ISPF panels.
Description
IBM's SCLM Administrator Toolkit is part of SCLM Advanced Edition set of tools designed to address the complexity of creating and maintaining SCLM projects, as well as ease the tasks of migrating artifacts and managing access to SCLM objects from a workstation.
New in Version 5.1
New features in V5.1 support:
Support for importing and generating projects that incorporate z/OS V1R10 SCLM constructs
Support for Enhanced Access Control-protected projects
Installation via IBM Installation Manager on Linux®
Error logging enabled by default
Based on the latest Eclipse 3.4.1 level
Based on the open source Remote System Explorer (RSE) included in the Eclipse Target
Management project
Integration into RDz 7.5 using the same RSE connection as for z/OS UNIX® Files, z/OS UNIX Commands, MVS Data sets, and TSO Commands
SCLM project life cycle management to enable testing of proposed changes to SCLM projects
and give better control of when changes are deployed to production
New table view for group administration
Detection of SCLM macros in user macros, including object model generation
Usability and productivity enhancements, including:
- Enabling "?" to prompt for valid values in many places in the ISPF interface, usually where a combo box would be used in the corresponding location in the GUI
- Easier remote migration
- Architecture definition wizard simplification
- Support for operations on multiple projects
- Improved reporting from batch operations
The simplicity and functionality you need at an attractive cost
You can get started easily with SCLM Administrator Toolkit by invoking the SCLM Project Wizard at either a workstation or the host to create a new project or modify an existing one. When creating a new project, the fields in the Project Wizard will be populated with default values. When modifying an existing project, the Wizard's fields will be populated with values selected from that project's current definition. Using the Project Wizard, you can define types, package backout parameters, and groups. If you are modifying an existing project and want to delete a type or group, the project wizard will, after confirmation from you, delete any data associated with that type or group. As you enter data into the Project Wizard, that data is saved at the host. Thus, at any time, you can choose to stop work before you have fully defined the project. Administrator Toolkit saves your work so that you can pick it up in a later session. When defining a group using the workstation interface, you can drag and drop boxes around your display, building a network of linked boxes much like an organization chart. Each box represents an SCLM group. Once you have completed your definition, Administrator Toolkit generates default authorization codes and PROMOTE definitions, which you can modify if you so choose. A process to add or modify groups is also available at the host using ISPF panels.
Using the Project Wizard, you can also configure any User Exits you may require, including the Breeze User Exits, if you've installed Breeze for SCLM for z/OS. You can add language types, or you can modify them using the Language Definition Wizard, available from the Project Wizard. Other functions provided by Administrator Toolkit include:
VSAM file maintenance scripts automatically created for your project when it is created that allow you to easily maintain your project's datasets.
An Architecture Definition Wizard permits you to create architecture definitions manually. You can also create architecture definitions by importing them from existing JCL or an existing Load Module.
Clone Project dialog that allows the cloning of existing project definitions to simplify the process of creating new alternate projects or complete new projects.
Migration Wizard to simplify the importing of assets into SCLM control, to include a Remote Migration Wizard to simplify migrating remote artifacts from other platforms.
Support for EAC administration
IBM Enhanced Access Control (EAC enhances RACF security. SCLM Suite Administrator Toolkit assists you in administering EAC by:
Maintaining existing RACF Dataset Profiles, EAC Rules Files, EAC Profile Access Rules, and EAC applications.
Displaying a list of EAC violations.
Flexibility and ease of use
Because SCLM Administrator Toolkit contains both a GUI and an ISPF interface, you can work in the environment in which you are most comfortable. Additionally, because the product supports both batch and online execution for many functions, you can choose immediate response when you require it, or can defer processing to a more convenient time.
