ISPF Client/Server
The ISPF Client/Server component enables you to transfer files between the host and your workstation. You can also edit host data on your workstation and edit workstation data on the host (this is known as distributed editing).
The ISPF Client/Server component also enables a panel to be displayed unchanged (except for panels with graphic areas) at a workstation using the native display function of the workstation's operating system. The ISPF manuals refer to this as running in GUI mode. The platforms supported are:
Microsoft Windows
AIX
HP/UX
Solaris
Workstations can communicate with the host using either Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) or Advanced Program-to-Program Communications (APPC). Functional enhancements to ISPF allow application developers to improve the appearance of the display on the GUI device.

An ISPF application run using the Client/Server display function looks like a native application running on the workstation operating system.
Point-and-shoot fields are automatically changed to push buttons.
Program Function keys (PF keys) can be shown as push buttons on the bottom of the screen.
Pulldowns become "live" on the workstation. No host interaction is required to get pulldowns to work.
