File Manager for z/OS

BUSINESS FLEXIBILITY:

Integration of the File Manager/Base with Rational Developer for System z is enhanced so that:

• Client template editing is provided via the Rational Developer for System z interface. You can create, update and edit templates with the equivalent function provided by the host template editor.

• Client editing is provided via the IBM Rational Developer for System z interface that allows you to perform all host editing activities.

• You can invoke File Manager Base host utilities from the IBM Rational Developer for System z interface.

Note: The integration enhancements with Rational Developer for System z in File Manager V10.1 require the use of Rational Developer for System z V7.6.

Unicode support is enhanced to provide the ability for the File Manager/DB2 editor to process DB2 Unicode data in native format, rather than processing the data after conversion (by DB2) to the coded character set identifier (CCSID) of the application or terminal.

Extended Access Volume (EAV) support enhancements let you better control the distribution of data on Extended Address Volumes.

File Manager external functions and batch capabilities are enhanced with FASTREXX function processing support for:

• Packed decimal length determination. All functions that can define a packed field now can determine the length from the data.

• System and user variables.

• A duplication factor for character literals equivalent to REXX Copies function.

• The ability to create statistics during a copy or find/change operation.

• The ability to adjust start locations for variable format input and output files that have been coded as if the record descriptor word (RDW) was included (for example, column 5 would be column 1 of the actual data).

• The ability to set the batch return code for compare when a given number of differences are detected.

Batch performance and functionality is enhanced so that you can now:

• Print a number of records from a FASTREXX procedure.

• Verify whether a certain field or area of a record is composed only of certain characters.

• Take a sampling of a data set for print and copy functions by virtue of introduced include and skip record counts.

IMS usability and callability enhancements include:

• The File Manager/IMS installation options module is updated to allow the File Manager/IMS administrator to specify up to 6 Program Specification Control Block (PSB) libraries, 6 Database Description Control Block (DBD) libraries and 6 Template libraries for each IMS subsystem. The specified libraries are used as the default PSB, DBD and Template libraries for File Manager/IMS functions. The options module is also updated to specify whether or not the user can override the default PSB, DBD and Template libraries.

• A new settings panel is included that allows you to save up to 6 PSB libraries for an IMS subsystem (when the PSB libraries for the IMS subsystem are not fixed) or displays the default PSB libraries for the IMS subsystem (when the PSB libraries for the IMS subsystem are fixed). It also allows you to save up to 6 DBD libraries for an IMS subsystem (when the DBD libraries for the IMS subsystem are not fixed) or displays the default DBD libraries for the IMS subsystem (when the DBD libraries for the IMS subsystem are fixed).

• A new settings panel is included that allows you to save up to 6 Template libraries for an IMS subsystem (when the Template libraries for the IMS subsystem are not fixed) or displays the default Template libraries for the IMS subsystem (when the Template libraries for the IMS subsystem are fixed).

• The PSB data set name field is removed from the Edit, Browse, Extract, Load, Print, Batch Edit, and Batch Browse entry panels. These dialogs are updated so that they use the PSB libraries specified on the new PSB and DBD Data Sets panel (when the PSB libraries for the specified IMS subsystem are not fixed) or the default PSB libraries for the IMS subsystem (when the PSB libraries for the specified IMS subsystem are fixed).

• The DBD data set name fields are removed from the Edit, Browse, Extract, Load, Print, Batch Edit, Batch Browse, Delete/Define and Initialize entry panels. These dialogs are modified so that they use the DBD libraries specified on the new PSB and DBD data sets panel (when the DBD libraries for the specified IMS subsystem are not fixed) or the default DBD libraries for the IMS subsystem (when the DBD libraries for the specified IMS subsystem are fixed).

• The Template data set name field is removed from the View Specification panel in the Edit, Browse and Print dialogs, the Options panel in the Batch Edit and Batch Browse dialogs, the Criteria/Keys Specification panel and the Create Extract Template panel in the Extract dialog. These dialogs are updated so that they use the Template libraries specified on the new Template Data Sets panel (when the Template libraries for the specified IMS subsystem are not fixed) or the default Template libraries for the IMS subsystem (when the Template libraries for the specified IMS subsystem are fixed).

• The PSB type option field (Dynamic/Static) is removed from the Systems Settings panel.

• When the dialog has two variants of the entry panel, the two variants of the panel are replaced with a single dialog entry panel that includes the fields from both variants. The PSB Type option field is also added to these dialog entry panels.

• An option field is added to the dialog entry panels that gives you the option of skipping the Database Data Set Specification/Display panel.

• Keyword support is added to the Edit and Browse functions. Keywords are included for all the data that's entered on the Edit and Browse Entry panels, so that callers of the Edit and Browse functions can bypass the Edit and Browse Entry panel.

Currency support for IMS V11 and CICS TS V4.1 is provided.

IT SIMPLIFICATION:

Data Aging is included via a a new function, MOD_DATE, to modify date fields on data sets by setting, incrementing or decrementing day, month or year values for dates stored in any number of formats. This applies to batch REXX and FASTREXX procedures and functions that support them. Most typically it is used in a copy process.

A new primary command, SQLID, is added to File Manager/DB2. The addition of the SQLID primary command enables an authorized File Manager/DB2 user to dynamically change the current SQLID value from any File Manager/DB2 processing panel.
This is of most benefit to DB2 System Administrators who typically run with DB2 SYSADM authority and issue SQL statements that require the current SQLID to be set to different DB2 authids.

WebSphere MQ support enhancements include:

• Updated security handling to ensure that security related failures are appropriately handled with new messages as required.

• Added update and write operations on MQ queues.

• Additional line commands, added to the manager and queue list displays, that allow you to retrieve information about a MQ manager, delete a queue from the queue list and add a queue to a MQ manager.

• Added support for utility (Create, Print, Copy, Compare) read and write access to MQ queues where QSAM is currently available.

The View Load Module (VLM) and Compare Load Module (CLM) utilities in File Manager/Base are enhanced to:

• Improve date processing on view/compare when reviewing load module reporting.

• Add relative track address (TTR) information to the load module directory list panels.

• Create link edit JCL based on the load module, CSECT information.

The ability to allow allocation of GDG(+1) is added by recognizing (+1) in the DSN field, in order to create a new group entry and to treat DSN(0) in reference lists the same, instead of its absolute name.

Additional installation options are added that:

• Allow you to provide defaults for VSAM edit sharing options, auxiliary data set allocation options, use the File Manager editor option, recognize and interpret ISPF pack data option, compiler language and compiler options for all languages, additional print options, and output data set allocations.

• Provide an installation option to specify the SFMNMOD1 library to be used in the batch JCL skeletons.

• Change the PRINTOUT option from SYSOUT=c to PRINTDSN and add a new option to specify the output print class.

• Ensure that the HEADERPG and DATAHDR options are honored for all batch functions.

• Provide an option to control the justification of numeric fields for the Data Set Compare (DSM) utility.

• Move Trace options from the Print options panel and create new panel.

• Add the Trace data set to the Output Data Set Allocation options panel.

GOVERNANCE:

File Manager logging and reporting is enhanced to support the following:

• On Demand logging that forces an audit trail for an edit session and the submission of a batch job to report the audit changes after completion of the editor session. Demand logging will imply dual logging if SMF logging is also requested. Demand logging is specified in the installation options module and applies to all components of File Manager.

• For the File Manager DB2 component, you can now define a member in SYS1.PARMLIB that contains File Manager DB2-specific configuration information. You can elect to specify auditing requirements, for the File Manager DB2 component only, using System Authorization Facility (SAF) rules defined using an external security product such as RACF. When this option is selected, auditing requirements can be specified for individual DB2 object names and for all File Manager DB2 functions. Audit records will be written for activities that were previously not subject to audit including data definition language (DDL) statements, DB2 authorization statements, and DB2 commands. These File Manager DB2-specific enhancements provide a greater level of security and flexiblity, with respect to audit.

• Additional options to display non-displayable data in hexadecimal format.

• The ability to highlight changed fields on a report.

Diagnostic tracing information gathering is improved when unexpected output or an interrupt occurs. It will also separate the trace output from the function output.

The ability to secure File Manager IMS functions by subsystem ID is provided. You are now allowed to secure File Manager IMS individual, update, and/or read-only functions for a specified subsystem.
