XL C is a standards-based, high performance C compiler with advanced optimizing and debugging features.
It gives you the ability to optimize and tune applications for superior execution on systems using PowerPC, POWER3, POWER4, POWER5, and the latest POWER6 processors from IBM.
- Is available as a separate orderable product, or as an included component of XL C/C++ Enterprise Edition for AIX, V9.0
- Is intended for use on machines running the AIX 5L Version 5.2 and AIX 5L Version 5.3 operating systems
- Includes powerful code optimization options that manipulate generated compiler output for optimal performance
- Supports the VMX instruction set, including support for the AltiVec programming model and APIs
- Supports the OpenMP API Version 2.5 specification, and related compiler options let you exploit symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) architectures with automatic parallelization of C program code as well as explicit parallelization of specifically selected sections of code
- Also includes facilities to help you port application code from GNU C
