Hardware requirements

Common client hardware requirements:

The following hardware requirements are common to all operating systems supported by 3DLive:

  • Disk drive: Internal or external disk drive (minimum recommended size is 4 GB) is required to store program executables, program data, usage environment and paging space.
  • Memory: 256 MB of RAM is the minimum recommended amount of memory for all applications. Requirements may be greater when large amount of data is used.
  • Display: A graphics color display compatible with the selected platform-specific graphics adapter. Minimum resolution for Microsoft Windows workstations is 1024 x 768.
  • System unit: Intel Pentium 4, Pentium D, Core 2, and Xeon-based workstations; AMD Sempron and Athlon workstations
  • Network adapter: Active LAN adapter (ethernet or token ring, installed and configured) is required for database connectivity and collaboration purposes.

Common server hardware requirements:

Windows Server 2003

System unit: Intel Xeon servers; AMD Opteron-based servers

AIX

System unit: any IBM System p processor families, supported on AIX V5.3.

3DLive prerequisites for the license management environment:

  • Windows workstations must have an active LAN card (Ethernet or token ring) and TCP/IP installed and properly configured, but there is no need to have the workstations connected to the network.
  • No additional software is required when accessing license keys.
  • LUM V4 is not supported.
  • Only LUM V5.1.2 Nodelocked License keys are supported. LUM V5.1.2 Concurrent License keys can be used on a named user basis. LUM Concurrent Offline License keys are not supported.

LUM V5 documentation can be downloaded, at no charge, from

Nodelock license mechanism: Microsoft Windows workstations must have an active LAN card (Ethernet or token ring) and TCP/IP installed and properly configured, though there is no need to have the workstations connected to the network. No additional license management software is required when accessing nodelock license keys.

LUM license mechanism: Microsoft Windows workstations must have an active LAN card (Ethernet or token ring) and TCP/IP installed and properly configured. The workstations must be actively connected to the network. Customers will need to connect to a LUM V5.1.2 server

3DLive general licensing principles:

3DLive AOP and sharable products may require prerequisite products that are not included in a standard purchased configuration. When a prerequisite product is not included in the selected standard configuration, both the AOP and its prerequisite products must be purchased and included as AOPs within a custom configuration. Prerequisites for shareable products can be satisfied by a standard configuration, by an AOP within a custom configuration, or by a shareable product.

Software requirements:

Note: LUM software is not required; all needed LUM code and documentation are included on the product media. Internally, 3DLive products use LUM V5.1.2.

3DLive license management model:

3DLive is licensed based on the number of Named Users, as defined in the Supplemental Terms section. The Named User license management can be implemented through one of two types of LUM license keys: nodelocked or served. 3DLive delivers identical license management mechanisms on UNIX and Windows environments, based on IBM License Use Management (LUM).

The following license management principles apply:

Each 3DLive orderable configuration and product requires a LUM license key, and either nodelocked or served LUM license keys can be provided. The 3DLive server configurations (LIX and VAR) each require a LUM Nodelocked license installed on the machine where the server is running.

Nodelock usage: Only one 3DLive license key per configuration or product can be registered per machine, and only one 3DLive Named User can run at a time on that machine. 3DLive LUM keys, like all LUM V5 keys, only work on the release for which they were created. When installing a future release, the customer should contact the key center for a release refresh key.

Served license key usage: Each 3DLive configuration or product requires one key for each Named User. The customer will be issued LUM license keys in an amount equal to the number of Named Users. 3DLive LUM keys, like all LUM V5 keys, only work on the release for which they were created. When installing a future release, the customer should contact the key center for a release refresh key.
