IBM benefits

Your health. Your wealth. Our partnership: The benefits of working at IBM

Welcome to the IBM benefits site for new hires. If you're new to IBM or are considering joining us, take a look around. You'll see that IBM offers a competitive benefits program, designed to help employees build a solid financial foundation for meeting a diverse array of needs — health care, income protection, retirement security, and personal interests. As of January 1, 2009, newly hired employees are eligible for the programs described below.

Key features

You are eligible

...for all benefit programs, except the IBM Employees Stock Purchase Plan, beginning with your first day of employment.

Health care coverage (medical, dental and vision) is available for you, your spouse/domestic partner (some health plans may not offer coverage for domestic partners), and eligible children and other dependents (documentation supporting eligibility is required). IBM provides a range of options, to allow employees to design a personalized program that meets their personal or family circumstances. In general, you are covered for pre-existing conditions under IBM's health and disability benefit plans. Special requirements may apply for certain optional supplementary benefits.

Note: Long-term supplemental employees are eligible for the following plans and programs, which are described briefly on this site: Medical, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, IBM 401(k)Plus Plan, Employees Stock Purchase Plan, Group Universal Life Insurance, and Employee Assistance Program. Special provisions may apply.

Enrolling in benefits

Once you're on board at IBM, you'll have the chance to enroll in all the benefit programs for which you are eligible.

For health benefits, you'll use NetBenefits, which will display your personalized information (including the benefits for which you are eligible and their associated costs). Your coverage will be retroactive to your first day of employment. Each year, you can review and change your benefits during the enrollment period, usually held in the fall. Employees pay their share of benefit coverage through automatic payroll deduction.

To enroll in the 401(k) Plus Plan, you'll visit NetBenefits.

If you are beginning your employment with IBM as a result of a strategic outsourcing alliance, merger or acquisition, an IBM HR transition team will assist with your benefits enrollment.
