IBM UNIX systems consist of the IBM eServer pSeries and IBM RS/6000
product lines. Providing unprecedented value, these innovative systems
feature IBM's leading-edge technology and run the top-rated UNIX
operating system, AIX. This broad product line ranges from powerful
workstations ideal for mechanical design; to mission-critical symmetric
multiprocessing (SMP) servers for ERP, SCM, CRM, transaction processing,
and Web serving; up to parallel RS/6000 SP systems that can handle
demanding scientific and technical computing and business intelligence
tasks. These platforms provide the power to create change and the
flexibility to manage it, with thousands of applications that provide
real value. More than 1,000,000 systems have shipped to over 135,000
businesses worldwide.

In situations where space is constrained, the IBM 7316-TF3 Flat Panel
Console Kit offers a space-saving monitor that occupies only 1U (1.75
inches) in a rack. The bright, 17-inch (337.9 mm x 270.3 mm) flat panel
color monitor mounts in a 19-inch standard rack drawer, using the flat
panel monitor rack-mount kit.
Using thin film transistor (TFT) LCD technology, the monitor features
1280 x 1024 display resolution without the glare of most CRTs.
The Model TF3 replaces the Model TF2.
The IBM Travel Keyboard is a mandatory feature for the 7316-TF3; it
mounts in the 7316-TF3 keyboard tray.
The 7316-TF3 also supports IBM's Keyboard/Video/Mouse (KVM) switches
including the VGA Switch (#4200 - withdrawn), the IBM NetBAY LCM
Switch (#4202 - withdrawn), the IBM 1x8 Console Switch (#4280), the
IBM Local 2x8 Console Manager (#4279), and the IBM 1x8 Rack Console
Switch (#4283). From a single console, a single one of these
switches allow users single-poing access and control of up to 64
servers (#4202), 8 servers (#4200 and #4280), or 128 servers (#4279
and #4283). Any one of these switches wil mount in the same 1U space
behind the 7316-TF3.

IBM 7316-TF3 Flat Panel Console
- Care must be taken when choosing the required keyboard for the
7316-TF3. In addition to a preferred language, the connection
type must be also considered. Choose a keyboard with PS/2
connectors when connecting directly to a POWER4 server (pSeries)
or to any of the following IBM Keyboard/Video/Mouse (KVM)
switches: the IBM NetBAY 2x8 Console Switch (#4200), the IBM
NetBAY LCM Switch (#4202), or the IBM 1x8 Console Switch
(#4280). Choose a keyboard with a USB connection when
connecting directly to POWER5 and POWER6 servers or to any
of the following IBM KVM switches: the IBM Local 2x8 Console
Manager (#4279), or the IBM 1x8 Rack Console Switch (#4283).
These two switches also have PS/2 inputs, but a USB keyboard is
preferred. None of the KVM console/switches above support
virtual media.
- Requires a keyboard (#6350, #6351, #6353, #6354, #6355, #6356,
#6357, #6359, #6361, #6363", or any of #8880 through #8897).
VGA Switch (#4200)
- This feature is not orderable on the 7316-TF3 though it is
supported on it.
Netbay LCM Switch (#4202)
- A minimum of one PS/2 cable (#4268) or USB cable (#4279) is required.
- The PS/2 cable (#4268) is used with systems with separate PS/2
keyboard and mouse connectors.
- The USB cable (#4269) is used with systems with USB keyboard or mouse
ports.
- Each PS/2 cable order (#4268) or USB cable order (#4269) contains
four cables used to connect up to four servers to the switch.
- A maximum of 64 PS/2 cables (#4268) or USB cables (#4269)
may be used with the IBM NetBAY LCM Switch (#4202) to connect up
to 64 servers in any combination of PS/2 or USB connections.
- Each of the four ports in the switch can connect to a maximum
maximum of 16 systems.
- One PS/2 cable order (#4268) or USB cable order (#4269) is required
for every four systems of that PS/2 or USB type supported on the switch.
- Cable feature numbers 4243, 4244, and 4245 are available to support
connection to the VGA switch (#4200).
IBM 1X8 Console Switch (#4280)
- A minimum of one PS/2 cable (#4282) or USB cable (#4281) is
reguired:
- The PS/2 cable (#4282) is used with systems with separate PS/2
keyboard and mouse connectors
- The USB cable (#4281) is used with systems with USB keyboard or
mouse ports.
- A maximum of 8 PS/2 cables (#4282) or USB cables (#4281) may
be used with switch #4280 to connect up to 8 servers in any
combination of PS/2 or USB connections.
- Each of the eight ports in the switch can connect a maximum of 1
system.
IBM 2X8 Console Switch (#4279)
- A minimum of one PS/2 cable (#4268) or USB cable (#4269) is reguired:
- The PS/2 cable (#4268) is used with systems with separate PS/2
keyboard and mouse connectors
- The USB cable (#4269) is used with systems with USB keyboard or
mouse ports.
- Each PS/2 cable order (#4268) or USB cable order (#4269) contains
four cables used to connect up to four servers to the switch
- A maximum of 128 PS/2 cables (#4268) or USB cables (#4269)
may be used with switch #4279 to connect up to 128 servers in any
combination of PS/2 or USB connections
- Each of the eight ports in the switch can connect a maximum
of 16 systems
- One PS/2 cable order (#4268) or USB cable order (#4269) is
required for every four systems of the PS/2 or USB type supported
on the switch.
IBM 1X8 Console Switch (#4283)
- A minimum of one PS/2 cable (#4268) or USB cable (#4269) is
required. Cables designed for the IBM 1x8 Console Switch (#4280)
(PS/2 cable #4282 and USB cable #4281) can also be used. However,
they will limit that switch port to one connected system rather
than a maximum of 16.
- The PS/2 cables (#4282 or #4268) are used with systems with
separate PS/2 keyboard and mouse connectors.
- The USB cables (#4281 or #4269) are used with systems with USB
keyboard or mouse ports.
- Each #4268 PS/2 cable order or #4269 USB cable order contains four
cables used to connect up to four servers to the switch. Orders for
#4282 PS/2 cables or #4281 USB cables contain one cable each.
- A maximum of 128 PS/2 cables (#4268) or USB cables (#4269) may
be used with switch #4283 to connect up to 128 servers in any
combination of PS/2 or USB connections. A maximum of 8 PS/2
cables (#4282) or USB cables (#4281) may be used with switch #4283
to connect up to 8 servers in any combination of PS/2 or USB
connections, though the usage of each one fully uses up one port on
the switch
- Each of the eight ports in the switch can connect a maximum of 16
systems using PS/2 cables (#4268) or USB cables (#4269).

Feature Descriptions
The following is a list of all feature codes in numeric order.
Attributes, as defined in the following feature descriptions, state
the interaction of requirements among features.
Minimums and maximums are the absolute limits for a single feature
without regard to interaction with other features. The maximum valid
quantity for MES orders may be different than for initial orders. The
maximums listed below refer to the largest quantity of these two
possibilities.
The order type defines if a feature is orderable only on initial
orders, only on MES orders, on both initial and MES orders, or if a
feature is supported on a model due to a model conversion. Supported
features cannot be ordered on the converted model, only left on or
removed from the converted model.
