At a Glance
IBM CICS Interdependency Analyzer for z/OS and OS/390 can be used to help
maintain, enhance, and migrate CICS business applications by:
-
Detecting and reporting on the interdependencies between your CICS
resources
-
Allowing you to query its reports online
Used in a run-time dynamic environment, CICS IA provides the information
for the systems programmer to split workloads and therefore allow for
efficient Work-Load Balancing across CICS Plex and Sysplex. Work-Load
Balancing helps to smooth out the peaks and troughs particularly
associated with e-business.
Overview
IBM CICS® Interdependency Analyzer for z/OS and OS/390® (CICS IA)
is a run-time tool that helps you identify resource interdependencies
within your CICS system using report data stored in a DB2® database.
These reports, which can be interrogated online, will help you to improve
your ability to maintain, enhance, and migrate your business
applications.

Description
IBM CICS Interdependency Analyzer for z/OS and OS/390 (CICS IA) is a
series of software modules that identify the sets of CICS resources used
by individual CICS transactions. CICS IA intercepts EXEC CICS commands
and records those that act upon transactions, programs, BMS maps, files,
TS queues, and TD queues.
CICS IA supports all current levels of CICS TS and CICS/ESA® 4.1.
CICS IA runs in each production CICS region, capturing the CICS resource
interdependencies as they occur. Each CICS region has its own set of
CICS IA datasets where the captured data is held. At the end of the day,
or when chosen, the CICS IA is stopped in each region, the datasets are
closed, migrated to a QSAM dataset, and re-opened, and the CICS IA is
started again. This QSAM dataset is used as the input file to the
Database Update Procedure where the data is run through a suite of jobs
to update the DB2 database.
The database is accessed via a front-end query process, which runs as a
set of CICS transactions.
The CICS IA data can also be accessed via a DB2 Client from a personal
computer, enabling the data to be interrogated and graphs or charts
produced. Alternatively the data can be accessed over the
Internet/intranet using "Net.Data®."
The product comprises the following components:
-
DB2 Database Tables
-
Actual DB2 tables that make up the database
-
Base tables
-
Facilitating tables
-
Views
-
Front-End Query Process
-
Online query process to access the database
-

-
Batch suite (run when chosen) COBOL and ASM programs to update
database
-

Accessibility by People with Disabilities
The CICS Interdependency Analyzer is operated using the keyboard. The
product displays standard 3270 panels which have been tested for use by
people with visual impairment using the JAWS screen reader. A hardcopy
of the product
User's Guide
is shipped with the product and a softcopy (.pdf) accessible version
will be made available on request.

This program is not impacted by euro currency.
Value Unit Based Pricing
Value Unit based pricing will help to align the prices of this product to
the principle of the PSLC pricing curve which provides for a lower price
per MSU (millions of service units per hour) for larger capacities.
There will also be a price benefit when customers grow their capacity.
Additional capacity will be based on the number of Value Units (MSUs) the
customer has already installed, that is, additional capacity will not be
priced starting at the base with a higher price per unit but on the
capacity that is already installed.
Note that Value Units of a given product cannot be exchanged,
interchanged, or aggregated with Value Units of another product.
IPLA and Subscription and Support Considerations
IPLA licenses can be transferred from one machine to another within, but
not limited to, an enterprise. The customer may aggregate the capacity
for all the processors the product is operated on to achieve a more
economic price. This will result in a single Proof of Entitlement (PoE).
It is the customer's responsibility to manage the distribution of Value
Units within the limits of the entitlement of the product license.
Subscription and Support must cover the same capacity as the product
license entitlement. Subscription and Support will be available in the
country in which the agreement is made.

The product in this announcement has one charge unit: Value Units.
Value Units for IBM 9672 Processors will be based upon the full capacity
of these systems. This is applicable to all S/390 based systems that are
measured on MSU capacity. Information on MSU capacities can be found in
the IBM System/370, System/390®, and zSeries Machine Exhibit
(Z125-3901).
Value Units for zSeries will be based upon full MSU capacity as defined
in the Machine Exhibit.
A tool is available that provides support for transforming the MSU based
capacities of S/390 systems to new Value Units by calculating the
applicable number of Value Units for a given number of MSUs.
Translation from MSUs to Value Units
Value

Base 1-3 1.00

H50 = 8.00 Value Units
H70 = 12.00 Value Units
ESL Models = 2.00 Value Units
Ordering Example:
The total number of Value Units is calculated according to the
following example.
If the customer has installed 1,000 MSUs, the applicable Value Units
would be:
Translation from MSUs to Value Units
Value
Units/ Value
MSUs * MSU = Units
Base 3 * 1.00 = 3.00
Tier A 42 * 0.45 = 18.90
Tier B 130 * 0.36 = 46.80
Tier C 140 * 0.27 = 37.80
Tier D 685 * 0.20 = 137.00
Total 1,000 243.50
When calculating the total number of Value Units, the sum is to be
rounded up to the next integer.
