API Management is a complete solution that helps you:
For ordering, contact your IBM representative, an IBM Business Partner, or IBM Americas Call Centers at 800-IBM-CALL (Reference: YE001).
Markets continue to change at a rapid pace. The expansion of the number of devices, such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and so on as well as the growth of social media is presenting new and additional business opportunities for companies to create new channels with their customers and partners. To address these emerging opportunities, companies are opening up their data and services by exposing them as web APIs. A web API management solution is imperative to the success of externalizing the core services by providing easy assembly of new APIs, enabling security and different levels of service, providing management and insight to developers and business users, and socializing those APIs to developers, through communities and portals.
Today, IBM is announcing IBM API Management, a complete set of web API capabilities that can be deployed on-premise in an enterprise's data center. API Management integrates the most important features that are necessary to enable the three most significant players in the API economy: application developers, business owners, and IT personnel.
API Management provides capabilities for creating, proxying, assembling, securing, and scaling the web APIs. This solution also provides detailed analytics and operational metrics to the business owner and a customizable developer portal to socialize the APIs and manage applications that can be used by the developers. The developer portal is available with self-service registration and provides links to social communities.
API Management complements the Software as a Service (SaaS)-based web API capabilities offered with IBM WebSphere® Cast Iron® Live Web API Services, but as an on-premise solution. Also, with the on-premise solution, you can now use your existing WebSphere DataPower® Gateway Appliances running firmware Version 6.0 to act as the API gateway.
API Management key benefits
API Management is a complete solution that offers critical web API capabilities, including:
|Planned availability date|
Today's dynamic business environments and economic uncertainties create a need for the organizations to work smarter in order to remain competitive and respond to changing demands for better and newer products and services at lower costs. Working smarter means having the agility to take advantage of new revenue opportunities and address competitive threats. It also means being able to optimize costs by lowering operational and maintenance expenses while increasing efficiency.
For many businesses, a primary barrier to business agility and cost optimization is IT complexity. To achieve business goals, IT must be able to quickly and easily deliver on the needs of the business while supporting innovation. API Management helps companies quickly orchestrate and create new web APIs, secure and manage the web APIs, gain business insight with analytics, socialize the web APIs in communities, and integrate their cloud services with on-premise applications and enterprise systems.
IBM offers a solution with IBM API Management to enable businesses to create, socialize, and manage their APIs. This solution can help you:
The on-premise offering of IBM API Management offers a solution for companies and businesses to establish API management for their private, internal APIs, as well as public or protected, external APIs. This new on-premise offering provides the capabilities needed to externalize and manage your services as web APIs. With it, you can also use your existing DataPower Gateway Appliances running at a minimum firmware level of V6.0, which provides security capabilities, threat protection, traffic management, and optimized delivery of API workloads.
API Management delivers the following sets of capabilities in these focused areas:

Processor Value Unit (PVU)
PVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVU table by processor value, brand, type, and model number at the website below) and the number of processors made available to the program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores. The PVU table can be found at
Licensee can deploy the program using either full capacity licensing or virtualization capacity (sub-capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (refer to the web page below). If using Full Capacity licensing, Licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores1 in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the program, except for those servers from which the program has been permanently removed. If using Virtualization Capacity licensing, Licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules at

|Statement of good security practices|
IT system security involves protecting systems and information through prevention, detection, and response to improper access from within and outside your enterprise. Improper access can result in information being altered, destroyed, or misappropriated or can result in misuse of your systems to attack others. Without a comprehensive approach to security, no IT system or product should be considered completely secure and no single product or security measure can be completely effective in preventing improper access. IBM systems and products are designed to be part of a comprehensive security approach, which will necessarily involve additional operational procedures, and may require other systems, products, or services to be most effective. IBM does not warrant that systems and products are immune from the malicious or illegal conduct of any party.
