| Overview |

Three new IBM POWER5+™ Capacity Upgrade on Demand (CUoD) symmetric multiprocessor (SMP) books are being made available for the System p5™ 595 and 590. These include POWER5+, 16-core standard and turbo processor books for the System p5 595 and one new POWER5+, 16-core standard processor book for the System p5 590. The standard processor book performs at 2.1 GHz and the turbo processor book performs at 2.3 GHz. Also being made available are three new POWER5+ CBU server configurations with redundant capacity, which can be turned on at any time to help protect against unplanned system outages.
These new POWER5+ processor and CBU books are incompatible with the previously released POWER5™ standard and turbo processor books (#7586, #7730, #7731, #7732, #7813,#7981, #7988, and #8969). All server configurations using the new POWER5+ processor books must specify the same processor book feature within a server configuration.
These POWER5+ server configurations will be accompanied by central electronics complex and Powered Expansion Racks highlighted with the System p5 blue stripe on their front doors instead of the current eServer® p5 Cu stripe. The blue stripe will be available for slim line, acoustic, and heat exchanger door kits.
Also being made available is a new 32 GB, 400 MHz, DDR2 CUoD memory card with zero GB activated. This new memory card is also available as a bulk order feature, quantity of 16 memory cards. Both of these memory features must be ordered 100% activated. DDR2 and DDR1 memory features are mutually incompatible in that they cannot be installed within the same system. Conversion from the current DDR1, 32 GB memory card features to the new 32 GB DDR2 memory card features are also being made available.
To assist in upgrading existing eServer p5 595 and 590 systems, both model and feature conversions
to the System p5 POWER5+ Processor Books, DDR2 memory cards, and door kits are being made available.
Feature conversions are always implemented on a "quantity of one for quantity of one" basis.
Multiple existing features may not be converted to a single new feature. Single existing features
may not be converted to multiple new features.

Limitations
- The new POWER5+™ processor and CBU books are incompatible with the previously released POWER5™ Standard and Turbo Processor Books (#7586, #7730, #7731, #7732, #7813, #7981, #7988, and #8969).
- The DDR2, CUoD memory being announced is not compatible with the available DDR1 memory cards.

If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service agreement or within the IBM warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service that may result in higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent will be made available to IBM service support representatives when they are helping answer your questions or diagnosing problems.
