Brief Description of Announcement, Charges, and Availability

     The IBM Personal Computer Interactive Executive (PC/IX), a new
operating environment derived from the UNIX* Time Sharing System,
includes several enhancements designed specifically for the IBM
Personal Computer. PC/IX was developed for IBM by INTERACTIVE Systems
Corporation of Santa Monica, California. It is based on INTERACTIVE's
IS/3, which, in turn, is based on UNIX System III, as licensed by
AT&T Technologies, Inc.

DESCRIPTION
       PC/IX is a single-user multitasking system. It allows a single
user to run several tasks at the same time; for example, it prints
one file while it edits another. It also permits several users to use
the IBM Personal Computer at different times with full-access control
to prevent unauthorized use of files or unauthorized access by one
user to files belonging to another user.
       PC/IX provides a flexible working environment and a uniform
set of tools for program development, document preparation, and text
processing, using the IBM Personal Computer.

ORDERING INFORMATION
       Orders for any quantity may be taken by NAD and NMD
representatives.
       No discount applies for quantities from 1 to 19.  To obtain
discounts on quantities of 20 or more, customers must sign a revised
Quantity Discount Agreement (QDA) (Z125-3421-1) and the new Exhibit,
Personal Computer Licensed Programs (Z125-3580-0), described in IBM
Marketing Announcement 384-133, dated December 18, 1984.
       This program is an eligible licensed program in Category B and
is ordered as a feature of 5870-BBB.
       IBM Product Centers will accept orders for PC/IX. Each Product
Center will accept and process orders within its trading area. Major
credit cards are accepted by the IBM Product Centers.
       The QDA is not available at IBM Product Centers. However,
customers may qualify for the following quantity discount at the
Product Center if they take delivery of the entire order at one time:

       PC/IX may also be ordered through IBM Direct and/or from
authorized IBM dealers.
       PC/IX Version 1 users will be offered a kit to upgrade their
system to Version 1.1. The kit will consist of five diskettes,
documentation, and installation instructions for integration into the
installed Version 1 system. The part number for the update kit is
6317009.
       Customers who want the upgrade kit must fill out the attached
order form, which is also available at IBM Product Centers or IBM
Authorized Personal Computer Dealers. The completed order form, a
check or money order, and the Maintenance Diskette (LY20-6261-0) for
Version 1 must be mailed to IBM Corporation, P. O. Box 3160,
Wallingford, Connecticut, 06494, for order processing. There is no

5870-BBB available under the terms and conditions of the revised
Quantity Discount Agreement (Z125-3412-1) and the new Exhibit,
Personal Computer Licensed Programs (Z125-3580-0), described in IBM
Marketing Announcement 384-133, dated December 18, 1984.
EDUCATIONAL ALLOWANCE: Qualifying educational institutions will be
eligible to receive a 20% educational allowance for PC/IX. The
educational allowance is not additive to any other discount.
