The Service Flow Modeler component of IBM WebSphere Developer for zSeries V6.0 is being introduced as a "Technology Preview." The tooling component is provided "as is" for evaluation purposes only, and is not warranted by IBM. To obtain a warranted version of the tooling component, you must obtain a later release of WebSphere Developer for zSeries which includes this code. If a question or problem is encountered with the use of the nonwarranted tooling component, and you want to provide feedback to IBM, you must use the newsgroup forum located at
When creating these items on the newsgroup, use a subject line of "Service Flow Modeler."
Service Flow Modeler is a multifunctional tool supporting modern application architectures and the transformation and reuse of existing application processes. It is designed to help leverage your investment, and the QOS, of existing enterprise information systems and the CICS Runtime (EIS) and Host Access Transformation Services, while at the same time enabling the move towards service oriented architecture (SOA). You can use Service Flow Modeler to:

Trademarks
WebSphere Developer for zSeries consists of a common workbench and an integrated set of tools that support end-to-end, model-based application development, runtime testing, and rapid deployment of e-business applications. It offers integrated development environments (IDE) with advanced, easy-to-use tools and features to help WebSphere, CICS®, and IMS developers rapidly design, code, and deploy complex applications.
Web Diagram Editor: Provides a visual component construction environment based on Struts, an open source implementation of the model-view-controller (MVC) component architecture; helps construct MVC-based Web applications with a visual assembly tool; provides quick access to resource-appropriate editors and wizards; separates team responsibilities for greater productivity and focus.
Java Development: Helps create Java code; enables incremental compilation and provides a common local and remote debugger benefit; includes Java source file tools to search, compare, and merge code and refactoring tools to help reorganize Java applications.
IBM z/OS® Development: Provides an interactive, workstation-based environment that provides quick access to IBM z/OS datasets; creates ASM, COBOL, or PL/I code; creates, maintains, and debugs IBM CICS system-based code, and IBM IMS and Structured Query Language (SQL) statements.
Web Development: Helps develop creative and data-rich Web-based applications; provides visual layout tools to help you write Java Server Faces (JSF), JavaServer Pages (JSP), and HTML, and also a wizard to develop servlet code; lets you create Web applications from database queries and beans; includes graphic-design software for producing static and animated output; supports J2EE coding and deployment.
Analysis and Performance Profiling: Collects and presents Java run-time data in graphical and nongraphical views; helps detect application performance issues early in the development cycle and improve overall system efficiency.
J2EE Platform Support: Features full Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) Version 1.1 support, and Web Archive (WAR) and Enterprise Application Archive (EAR) deployment support; includes an updated EJB test client and an enhanced unit-test environment to create multiple projects with different unit-test configurations.
Testing and Deployment: Allows cross-platform interactive testing, debugging, and deployment of JSP, servlets, EJB, and HTML files on local and remote Web application servers as well as CICS, IMS/DC, and batch debugging of COBOL, PL/I, and assembler applications.
Web Services Deployment: Helps build and deploy Web services-enabled applications across a broad range of platforms; offers tools to ensure conformance to standards such as UDDI for Java, Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), and Web Services Description Language (WSDL).
Relational Database: Helps create and manipulate project data design as relational database (RDB) schemas; writes queries against local and remote data.
XML Development: Offers the ability to create, view, edit, and validate document-type definitions (DTD) and XML schemas, and transform XML documents into text, HTML, or other XML document types; integrates relational databases and XML. Also generates COBOL adapters and CICS Transaction Server V3 WSBind artifacts.
Enterprise Generation Language (EGL): WebSphere Developer for zSeries includes EGL, a high-level procedural language (familiar to SQL, COBOL, RPQ, and Informix 4GL developers) that developers, unfamiliar with Java, can use to quickly build data-driven Web applications and business logic. Developers can write and debug their applications in EGL and WebSphere Developer for zSeries generates the Java code for them. Used in conjunction with JavaServer Faces (JSF), EGL allows developers to build dynamic Web applications without having to learn the Java language. This capability opens up Java development to a new class of developers that apply their business domain expertise and use their skills as procedural developers to build dynamic Web applications.
EGL is a development environment and programming language that lets you write full-function applications quickly, freeing you to focus on the business problem your code is addressing rather than on software technologies. You can use similar I/O statements to access different types of external data stores, for example, whether those data stores are files, relational databases, or message queues. The details of Java and J2EE are hidden from you, too, so you can deliver enterprise data to browsers even if you have minimal experience with Web technologies. After you code an EGL program, you generate it to create Java source (or COBOL source with the optional, new EGL for COBOL Extension feature described below); then EGL prepares the output to produce executable objects.
A conversion utility is also provided enabling batch conversion of VisualAge® Generator V4.5 programs and other source to the new EGL language syntax.
Enterprise Generation Language for COBOL Extension: Application processes built in EGL can also be deployed to zSeries CICS environments through the EGL for COBOL Extension feature, which can be purchased separately. EGL generation to the COBOL language enables deployment of server-based EGL components to CICS environments. Connectivity is provided through JCA. Application patterns or environments supported include:
Globalization support: WebSphere Developer for zSeries complies with basic globalization support requirements. A multilingual version of this product is available in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.

This fee service enhances customer productivity, with voice and electronic access into IBM support organizations.
IBM includes one year of Software Maintenance with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Maintenance can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option that is available.
While your Software Maintenance is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short-duration installation and usage (how-to) questions; and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. (This assistance is not available to your end users.) IBM provides Severity 1 assistance 24 hours a day, every day of the year. For additional details, consult your IBM Software Support Guide at
