IBM® Software Delivery and Lifecycle Patterns simplify the deployment of project lifecycle and delivery tooling. A catalog of patterns with tooling helps enable customers to rapidly deploy and use the tools they need at the time that they need them. Patterns in the catalog enable customers to focus their critical resources on value-add activities, instead of installation and configuration of different middleware prerequisites and parts of these solutions. This release includes virtual system patterns (VSPs) for Rational® Collaborative Lifecycle Management (CLM) V4.0.2 solution and Rational Application Developer (RAD) based on helpful practices and golden topologies.

For ordering, contact your IBM representative, an IBM Business Partner, or IBM Americas Call Centers at 800-IBM-CALL (Reference: AE001).

Overview
Bottom rule

IBM Software Delivery and Lifecycle Patterns provide a set of tooling in pattern configuration for project lifecycle and delivery management. Virtual patterns configuration helps make it easier for customers to rapidly set up a virtual workbench of these tools for wide-scale use in their organizations depending on the lifecycle stages of the applications and the needs and roles of their teams. Virtual patterns configuration also help make it easier to calibrate the footprint of different tools as the needs and team sizes change.

The first installment of IBM Software Delivery and Lifecycle Patterns introduces three key capabilities from the Rational portfolio:

Rational Collaborative Lifecycle Management Solution V4.0.2 helps provide integrations across the software disciplines of Change and Configuration Management, Requirements Management, and Quality Management. It connects the work of analysts with development and test teams. This integrated solution delivers the combined capabilities of Rational Team Concert™ , Rational Requirements Composer, and Rational Quality Manager in a single virtual system pattern that can be rapidly deployed and dismantled based on needs of agile teams. This pattern encodes the golden topologies and helpful practices of the solution, and is built on top of WebSphere® Application Server and DB2® .

Rational Application Developer is an award-winning development environment, optimized for WebSphere Application Server V8.5 and the new Liberty Profile, WebSphere Portal, and IBM Workload Deployer. Rational Application Developer helps accelerate the development of applications that leverage the latest programming models and styles such as Java™ EE 6, SOA, OSGi, Cloud, Web 2.0, Mobile Web, Portal, SCA, and Modern Batch. It includes tight integration with WebSphere Application Server Unit Test environments to test, debug, fix, analyze, and maintain applications in an environment that mimics your production systems. In addition to delivering these capabilities, the virtual system pattern for Rational Application Developer V8.5.1 also provides built-in integration with Eclipse Client of Rational Team Concert .

Rational License Key Server V8.1.3 helps enable customers to manage their license keys for IBM Rational software. This shared service enables customers to manage their licenses from within the IBM PureApplication™ System and IBM Workload Deployer environments.

Description
Bottom rule

IBM provides a full range of offerings to help ensure software and systems delivery success through practical, reliable, and extensible components. Designed with the needs of business users in mind, Rational offerings provide flexible, time-saving technologies that are developed for immediate productivity, high-fidelity results, and cost-savings.

IBM Software Delivery and Lifecycle Patterns offer a catalog of tooling to manage software project lifecycle. As a part of this catalog, IBM provides virtual system patterns for key offerings from Rational portfolio with golden topologies and helpful practices encoded.

Software Delivery and Lifecycle Patterns provides:

Virtual patterns execution model

The virtual patterns execution model on IBM PureApplication System and IBM Workload Deployer provides an "Instant-On" value proposition for key solutions and capabilities. Customers may be able to deploy fully configured and functioning patterns within minutes, which could translate to increased productivity of key resources. This model also enables customers to stand up multiple instances of any single pattern with complete isolation of teams and environments limited only by available memory space and entitlements. Thus, customers are now afforded tremendous flexibility to rapidly set up and tear down tool environments as the needs of their application projects change and evolve. This flexibility helps in better capacity planning and control over software license costs.

Virtual system pattern for Rational Collaborative Lifecycle Management Solution V4.0.2

Virtual system pattern for Rational Collaborative Lifecycle Management Solution V4.0.2 provides preinstalled, preconfigured golden topologies built on top of the industry-leading platforms of WebSphere Application Server V8.5 and DB2 Enterprise Server Edition ( DB2 ESE) V9.7. The use of DB2 ESE V9.7 offers significantly increased data protection, scalability, and performance for all its database-intensive operations which is designed to manage data more effectively and efficiently. Greater availability is delivered through enhancements such as online, automated database reorganization. In addition, the increased scalability and the ability to leverage the latest in database server technology helps deliver increased performance of backup and recovery processes.

The virtual pattern configuration helps save customers from having to invest time and effort in installation, configuration, and maintenance of the solution and different prerequisites; and instead, enables to focus critical resources on strategic, value-add activities. The pattern comes complete with the three major components of solution: Rational Team Concert , Rational Requirements Composer, and Rational Quality Manager. It also includes samples and other utilities that guide customers to understand the usage and the value of the overall solution.

Virtual system pattern for Rational Application Developer V8.5.1

Virtual system pattern for Rational Application Developer V8.5.1 provides management and control over this award-winning integrated development environment (IDE).

Shared service for Rational License Key Server V8.1.3

The use of most of the IBM Rational products is controlled by specific license keys. These product license keys are acquired through the IBM License Key Center and installed on one or more Rational License Key Servers to serve and manage licenses in the enterprise. IBM now makes Rational License Key Server V8.1.3 available as a Shared Service on IBM PureApplication System and IBM Workload Deployer environments. This enables customers to manage their license keys and token licenses from within their Private Cloud environments.

Having built the virtual workbench of Software Delivery and Lifecycle Patterns in their environments, customers can build an appropriate user licensing strategy to access these patterns from token-based, perpetual (floating or authorized) and fixed-term (floating or authorized) licensing, and implement it with the shared service for Rational License Key Server V8.1.3.

Note: The virtual system patterns are delivered in the form of HyperVisor Edition (HVE) install images in OVA (Open Virtualization Alliance) format. These images are too large in size (25-40 GB) to fit on a DVD. Essentially, the OVA format supports creation of single large files. As such, splitting the OVA files into pieces (to put them on DVDs) is counter to the purpose of the format. Further, a technical solution to split and concatenate would also be error-prone given the sizes. As such, IBM Rational virtual system patterns on RedHat Enterprise Linux™ which are part of Software Delivery and Lifecycle Patterns V1.0 are available only in the form of electronic downloads from IBM Passport Advantage® with Download Director. This is consistent with the approach for the other IBM Hypervisor Edition offerings.

Charge metrics definitions

Processor Value Unit (PVU)

PVU is a unit of measure by which the program can be licensed. The number of PVU entitlements required is based on the processor technology (defined within the PVU table by processor value, brand, type and model number at

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/pvu_licensing_for_customers.html
and the number of processors made available to the program. IBM continues to define a processor, for the purpose of PVU-based licensing, to be each processor core on a chip. A dual-core processor chip, for example, has two processor cores.

Licensee can deploy the program using either full capacity licensing or virtualization capacity (sub-capacity) licensing according to the Passport Advantage Sub-Capacity Licensing Terms (refer to web page below). If using full capacity licensing, licensee must obtain PVU entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores1 in the physical hardware environment made available to or managed by the program, except for those servers from which the program has been permanently removed. If using virtualization capacity licensing, licensee must obtain entitlements sufficient to cover all activated processor cores made available to or managed by the program, as defined according to the Virtualization Capacity License Counting Rules at

http://www.ibm.com/software/lotus/passportadvantage/Counting_Software_licenses_using_sp ecific_virtualization_technologies.html

1
An activated processor core is a processor core that is available for use in a physical or virtual server, regardless of whether the capacity of the processor core can be or is limited through virtualization technologies, operating system commands, BIOS settings, or similar restrictions.
