IBM's expectations are that IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Green Energy V6.2 will:
- Be a powerful tool for energy management

The intended focus of IBM Tivoli Performance Analyzer V6.2 is on:

IBM Tivoli® Monitoring for Green Energy V6.2
As a key enabler for the IBM Tivoli green data center solution, IBM is currently planning to introduce IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Green Energy, as a new product that could be a powerful energy management tool for the data center. The product plans focus on providing the necessary link between the domains of energy management and service management, with the goal of helping customers reduce energy use while maintaining IT service levels. The intent behind IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Green Energy is to help businesses to monitor key energy metrics in the data center, to provide alerts when critical energy situations are identified, and to take the appropriate actions. Additionally, plans are that IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Green Energy would form the basis for a green data center platform by providing energy information to other service management tools so that energy can be managed in the wider context of the IT services it supports.
In order to manage energy across the entire data center, plans are to tie IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Green Energy will tie into the three types of data center assets — IT, data center infrastructure, and building automation systems. IBM feels that all of these assets must be included to provide a complete energy management solution in the data center.
IBM Tivoli Performance Analyzer V6.2
IBM Tivoli Performance Analyzer, an existing product, extends the capabilities of IBM Tivoli Monitoring and IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager by assisting users with the ability to predict when thresholds will be breached and enabling notification and automation based on forecasted status. Extending the capabilities of the Tivoli Enterprise™ Portal, IBM Tivoli Performance Analyzer V6.1 will help to increase the value of IBM Tivoli Monitoring and IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager by adding forward-looking predictive capability to the already strong real-time, near-time, and historical data management capabilities. With IBM Tivoli Performance Analyzer V6.1, IT operations and administrators can focus on future performance issues to provide for proactive operational management.
IBM Tivoli Performance Analyzer V6.1 addresses the needs of multiple audiences:
- Operations staff who could use it to create more intelligent and earlier alerts of systems performance.
- Performance specialists who could use it to help them manage a larger number of systems that may otherwise have been exceptionally difficult to manage.
- IT managers could use it to help get better productivity from their valuable technical resources.
The next release of IBM Tivoli Performance Analyzer V6.2 is expected to add the ability to monitor service level objective trends. With this additional capability, it will also be able to address the needs of an additional audience:
- Service level managers could use it to help ensure that performance, availability, and capacity related bottlenecks do not impact committed service levels
The next release of IBM Tivoli Performance Analyzer V6.2 is expected to add the ability to discover resources and monitor service level objective trends.

IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Green Energy V6.2
The management of energy in the data center is becoming critically important to both data center and facilities managers. The operational costs of power are rising significantly and taking a larger share of the IT budget. Data centers are running into energy-related constraints — lack of available power, temperatures that are too high, or even a lack of space. Without a way to solve these constraints within the existing data center, new capital expenditures are often the answer.
IBM's expectations are that IBM Tivoli Monitoring for Green Energy can provide the capability to help gain visibility into energy costs. Expectations are that this product also provides a data collection layer to gather and share energy information from across the data center, and form the basis for a green data center platform that extends energy management by tying it to service management.
IBM Tivoli Performance Analyzer V6.2
IBM Tivoli Performance Analyzer V6.1 currently enhances the IBM Tivoli Monitoring and IBM Tivoli Composite Application Manager family of products and adds trending and forecasting capabilities to the resource, application, and transaction monitoring capabilities. Users can create reports of any monitored data at a desired level of granularity for any desired length of time (assuming the historical data is available), and integrate that information into a picture that shows resource consumption right up until the present time.
The next release of IBM Tivoli Performance Analyzer V6.2 is expected to focus on adding the following capabilities:
- Integration of Service Level Objective (SLO) definition, measurement, and reporting into the Tivoli Enterprise Portal environment
- Predictive trending and forecasting on SLO violations and achievements
- Delivery of out-of-the-box SLO reporting in Tivoli Common Reporting
