Overview
The IBM eServer® p5 595 (9119-595) provides an expandable, high-end enterprise solution for managing the computing requirements needed to become an on demand business.
The p5-595 is configured as a 42U-tall, 24-inch rack. It is available in 16-, 32-, 48-, and 64-way configurations. It provides memory expansion capability up to 2 TB.
The symmetric multiprocessor (SMP) server can be configured with from one to four standard or turbo 16-way processor books. Each 16-way book contains two 8-way multi-chip modules (MCMs) that use state-of-the-art, 64-bit, copper-based, IBM POWER5 technology microprocessors. Each pair of processors within an MCM is supported by 1.9 MB of Level 2 cache and 36 MB of Level 3 cache. Each 16-way processor book also includes 16 slots for memory cards and six Remote I/O-2 attachment cards for connection of the system I/O drawers.
Up to 12 I/O drawers can be configured on a p5-595 server. Each I/O drawer contains twenty 3.3-volt PCI-X adapter slots and up to sixteen disk bays. Fully configured, the p5-595 can support 240 PCI adapters and 192 disks at 15,000 rpm.
Other features include:
The p5-595 supports AIX® 5L V5.2 and V5.3, Linux, and i5/OS V5R3 operating systems. These operating systems can run simultaneously in different partitions within the p5-595 server.
Note: Not all system features available under the AIX 5L operating system are available under the Linux operating system.
This announcement also provides hardware features required for support of i5/OS on the IBM eServer

Statement of general direction
IBM intends to offer Capacity BackUp configurations for machine type 9119 for use in disaster recovery scenarios. The systems will be offered with primarily inactive CoD processors and will only support temporary activation of processors using On/Off CoD. The announce and availability dates are planned for first quarter 2005.
IBM intends to provide support for the IBM eServer p5 595 (9119-595) and p5-590 (9119-590) within the Cluster 1600 (9078-160) running Cluster Systems Management (CSM) V1.4 for both SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 and AIX 5L V5.2 and V5.3 in fourth quarter 2004.
IBM plans to extend the capabilities of the IBM eServer pSeries® High Performance Switch (HPS) (7045-SW4) with AIX 5L V5.2 by introducing support for the IBM eServer p5 595 and 590. This capability is planned to be available in second quarter 2005.
Dual service processor automatic failover capability
All 590 and 595 servers can be shipped with dual service processor cards. IBM intends to provide an automatic failover capability to the redundant service processor in the first half of 2005. IBM plans to make the failover support available via a no-charge firmware upgrade.

IBM Electronic Services
IBM Global Services has transformed its delivery of hardware and software support services to put you on the road to higher systems availability. IBM Electronic Services is a Web-enabled solution that provides you with an exclusive, no-additional-charge enhancement to the service and support on the IBM eServer. You should benefit from greater system availability due to faster problem resolution and preemptive monitoring. IBM Electronic Services is comprised of two separate but complementary elements: IBM Electronic Services news page and IBM Electronic Service Agent.
IBM Electronic Services news page provides you with a single Internet entry point that replaces the multiple entry points traditionally used by customers to access IBM Internet services and support. By using the news page, it enables you to gain easier access to IBM resources for assistance in resolving technical problems.
The IBM Electronic Service Agent is no-additional-charge software that resides on your IBM eServer system that is designed to proactively monitor events and transmit system inventory information to IBM on a periodic customer-defined timetable. The IBM Electronic Service Agent tracks system inventory, hardware error logs, and performance information. If the server is under a current IBM maintenance service agreement or within the IBM warranty period, the Service Agent automatically reports hardware problems to IBM. Early knowledge about potential problems enables IBM to provide proactive service that maintains higher system availability and performance. In addition, information collected through the Service Agent will be made available to IBM service support representatives when they are helping answer your questions or diagnosing problems.

Additional charges may apply outside IBM's normal service area. Contact your local IBM representative or your reseller for country- and location-specific information.
Customer replaceable unit service
IBM provides replacement CRUs to you for you to install. CRU information and replacement instructions are shipped with your machine and are available from IBM upon your request. CRUs are designated as being either a Tier 1 or a Tier 2 CRU.
Installation of Tier 1 CRUs is your responsibility. If IBM installs a Tier 1 CRU at your request, you will be charged for the installation.
For machines with on-site same-day response service, IBM will replace a Tier 1 CRU part at your request, at no additional charge.
You may install a Tier 2 CRU yourself or request IBM to install it, at no additional charge.
Based upon availability, CRUs will be shipped for next-business-day delivery. IBM specifies, in the materials shipped with a replacement CRU, whether a defective CRU must be returned to IBM. When return is required, return instructions and a container is shipped with the replacement CRU, and you may be charged for the replacement CRU if IBM does not receive the defective CRU within 30 days of your receipt of the replacement.
The following parts have been designated as Tier 1 CRU parts: Not applicable.
On-site service
IBM On-site repair: 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, same-day response. IBM will repair the failing machine at your location and verify its operation. You must provide a suitable working area to allow disassembly and reassembly of the IBM machine. The area must be clean, well-lit, and suitable for the purpose.
