TITLE:

Restatement of criteria for aggregated sysplex pricing

Revisions to this letter may be made for 90 days following the
publication date. After 90 days, please access the IBM Global
Sales Manual for the most up-to-date product information.

Overview

IBM is restating the requirements that determine customer eligibility for aggregated Parallel Sysplex License Charges (PSLC) or aggregated Workload License Charges (WLC). Qualifying criteria that define the "actively coupled" requirement are described and additional systems enablement functions are specified. For guidance and compliance, IBM may require verification of these criteria via Resource Measurement Facility (RMF), Sysplex Calculator, or equivalent reports. The Sysplex Calculator is a new, no-charge, downloadable tool from IBM that can help you assess whether your Parallel Sysplex qualifies for aggregation. For more information on the Sysplex Calculator, refer to the DESCRIPTION section. These changes are reflected in the 'Exhibits - Parallel Sysplex License Charges (Z125-5206)' and 'zSeries Workload License Charges Exhibit (Z125-6234)'. All of the other terms remain unchanged. For detailed information, refer to Hardware Announcement AA98-3002, dated January 13, 1998, (Clarification of Parallel Sysplex Pricing Terms and Conditions Including Changes to the Parallel Sysplex License Charge Exhibit). Customers meeting the qualifying criteria will have the advantage of aggregating MSUs in calculating PSLC or WLC prices.

Description

To qualify for aggregated sysplex pricing, your machine must operate in an "actively coupled" environment. The criteria for 'actively coupled' are defined in the following IBM contracts: o Exhibit - Parallel Sysplex License Charges (Z125-5206) o Attachment for Parallel Sysplex License Charges (Z125-5205) o zSeries Workload License Charges Exhibit (Z125-6324) o Attachment for zSeries Workload License Charges (Z125-6516) To be considered "actively coupled" your systems must comply with the following conditions: 1. All machines in the Parallel Sysplex must be physically attached via coupling links to a common Coupling Facility listed in Group B of the PSLC Exhibits or WLC Exhibits and via timer links to a common sysplex Timer. If a Coupling Facility is divided into multiple logical partitions (LPARs), all machines must be attached to the same Coupling Facility LPAR. 2. All z/OS, z/OS.e, OS/390 and MVS/ESA V5 images that comprise the Parallel Sysplex environment must have at least one common systems enablement function activated to use the Coupling Facility across all images in the sysplex. Eligible Systems Enablement Functions are: o Application Data Sharing including: - IMS TM: with IMS DB or DB2 - CICS: with IMS DB, DB2, or VSAM RLS - TSO and DB2 data sharing - An eligible Independent Software Vendor's Data Base from Group C of the PSLC Exhibit o WebSphere MQ shared message queues o HSM common recall queues o Enhanced catalog sharing o GRS Star Implementation o JES2 Checkpoint in the Coupling Facility o RACF database caching o SmartBatch multisystem processing o VTAM Generic Resources o VTAM MULTINODE Persistent Sessions o Automated tape sharing and switching o System logger SYSLOG (OPERLOG) o System logger LOGREC o System logger Resource Recovery Services 3. The configuration and operating modes described in this announcement must be the normal mode of operations for this environment. The z/OS, z/OS.e, OS/390 and MVS (collectively referred to as the "eligible operating system") images participating in the above systems enablement function(s), on the same sysplex, must account for at least 50 percent of the total of the eligible operating system workload on each eligible machine. (Special-purpose engines - such as Internal Coupling Facility engines, Integrated Facility for Linux engines, and zSeries Application Assist Processors - are not included as part of the calculation for this 50 percent criterion.) 4. A machine can only be in one Parallel Sysplex for pricing purposes. In the event there are two LPARs, each 50 percent of the eligible operating system workload, connected to two Parallel Sysplexes, you must select which Parallel Sysplex the eligible machine will be included in for billing. You should notify your IBM representative when you believe that your systems qualify for aggregated sysplex pricing under these criteria for current and new Parallel Sysplexes. Aggregated sysplex pricing will apply on the first day of the month following IBM's receipt of the notification. Additional or upgraded machines in existing sysplexes must satisfy these criteria before the associated machine MSUs will qualify for aggregated PSLC or aggregated WLC pricing. You must also notify IBM when you believe that your systems no longer qualify for pricing under these criteria. For guidance and compliance, IBM may periodically require verification of the criteria set forth in this announcement via RMF, Sysplex Calculator, or equivalent reports. The Sysplex Calculator is a new, no-charge, downloadable tool from IBM that can help you assess whether your Parallel Sysplex qualifies for aggregation. This tool is designed to analyze Systems Measurement Facility (SMF) data from two or more machines and produce a report describing which Parallel Sysplex each machine belongs to, if any, based upon the 50 percent criterion stated in this announcement. The Sysplex Calculator is designed to analyze SMF data from any mainframe running an eligible operating system that generates RMF-compliant SMF70 records. While the Sysplex Calculator is designed to assist you in determining eligibility for Parallel Sysplex Aggregation, final eligibility determination can only be made by IBM through your IBM representative. For additional information on Parallel Sysplex Aggregation or to download the new Sysplex Calculator, please visit the Parallel Sysplex Aggregation Website o http://ibm.com/zseries/swprice/sysplex THIS ANNOUNCEMENT IS PROVIDED FOR YOUR INFORMATION ONLY. IBM PRODUCTS CAN BE ORDERED ONLY UNDER THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS REFLECTED IN THIS ANNOUNCEMENT. SOME PRODUCTS REFERENCED MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE IN YOUR AREA.
